Final Fantasy 14 Opens Beta Sign Ups
by Garnett Lee, Dec 16, 2009 7:16pm PSTScheduled for release in 2010, Square Enix's second Final Fantasy MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, has started accepting applications for PC beta testers. Those interested can point their browser at the official site, cross their fingers to hope it loads, and then follow the link to sign up.
Lest you stress over getting in first the FAQ states, "Please note that users will be selected by random from all applications for the beta test." Other details for prospective testers include that you must be 18 to participate, applying more than once will get you disqualified, and they plan to roll out a number of waves, increasing the population with each. The info page also notes that a PS3 beta will also take place but those applications will come at a later time. The game, though, is planned to release simultaneously on PC and PlayStation 3, and Square Enix has previously noted they are also "considering all options" for other platforms.

The biggest issue I had with FFXI was I was unable to level up without a group after a certain level. I ended standing in Jeuno(sp?) for about an hour every evening waiting for a group, an hour traveling to our location and then battling monsters. It was fun, but I just didn't have the time to just sit there waiting for a group every time.
