Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, Dec 09, 2009 5:30am PSTFCUK 63--that's me. For the next few years, my foremost expression of myself will be good old FCUK 63. Though I might only need you so I can see, by being slapped on my face you are essentially a constant fashion accessory so let's make the most of it.
Sipping tea at 5 o'clock on the dot with the Women's Institute, your sensible design will please elder conservatives while your flash of colour will thrill progressives. When you get lost during tomfoolery down the pub with the Long Island Iced Tea Ladies Society, even in that state I'll be able to spot you and remember we belong together. Stumbling to the front door in the middle of the night to find a police constable telling me they're very sorry but there's been an accident, there you'll be right there with me FCUK 63, hanging lop-sided across my face from one ear with a bright streak to lighten the mood.
You and me, FCUK 63. I think we're going to get on just fine.

I've had fun, but the trifecta of faeces in the last match convinced me this isn't the game for me. Last match starred:
-running knife man
-running akimbo shotgun man
-cheating javelin man
Only one of the roles up there are an actual cheat, but i dont think this game is targeted at me. It probably ticks a lot of boxes for some people, but they aren't mine.

We're playing Hard Rain, heading back with the gas through the neighborhood. I'm up on the roof (as Rochelle) and the other three are down in the street. A storm picks up, zombies start showing up and all I can hear is the wind whipping and the sound of gunfire.
Nick says something about zombies
Then I just hear coach, like he is trying to understand what nick said, yelling "Excuse me?! EXCUSE ME?!"

Icecrown is here! I did the first two 5 man dungeons last night, both were pretty cool and somewhat reminded me of a cross between Hyjal Summit and a really cold Black Temple. The second boss in The Pit of Saron was probably the highlight.
Other things that I've noticed that are awesome:
-LFG cross-realm matchmaking system (long time coming for low population servers and finding old-world dungeon groups).
-Quest tracker seems very well done and shouldn't need quest helper addon anymore.
-dots and hots finally scaling with haste is huge and makes me happy in the pants.
Thoughts?

The sniper rifles are really fun to use and setting up overlooking an objective and picking off the dudes as they try and disarm the bomb is great. My favourite sniper moment was killing a dude and then killing the medic that rushed over to revive him RIGHT before he managed to revive him.
The assault class is ok - I'm not sure being able to give ammo out is that useful but it's cool having an endless supply of M203 grenades :D I just unlocked the second rifle and it seems much better than the first (which is mostly due to preferring the ironsight)
The medic is my favourite class. Being able to bring people back from the dead is just awesome. Also setting up little triage centres where I just spam out a bunch of medkits and people can fall back to it or pick up some health as they pass. The medic has a massive machine gun which just makes him awesome. I have the faster sprint perk on my medic so I can dash out of cover and revive someone.
The engineer is my least favourite class. It's great that he has a rocket launcher but I don't really find the tanks all that bothersome for the most part (and the snipers det packs deal with them quite well). His SMG is ok in tight quaters but it basically forces you to stay in the few buildings or alleyways and that's just not my style.
I've not spent a lot of time in the vehicles but I enjoyed sitting in the gunner seat of an M1 just picking targets (if you hit the back/select button when looking at a bad guy or enemy vehicle it reports their position to your team - much better than the auto report on hit that BC1 had)
Definite purchase for me - PC or 360 though? I'm not sure - I can imagine snipers owning the game on PC unless they do something to balance them - a good sniper on the PS3 can dominate so I hate to think what a good mouse sniper could achieve!
* and I am not one of them.

Anybody know a way to convince the chrome address bar to behave more like the Firefox 3.5 "awesome bar" does?
I'm trying to switch browsers (because I am fed up with the slow performance and gargantuan memory footprint of Firefox), but I have a few habits that don't seem to carry over. For example: in the awesome bar, I just start typing "latest" and it pulls up latestchatty.x in the results and I can hit tab then enter to get to the chatty; this is awesome because after doing this a few times, the awesome bar learns what result you really want, and by now I really just have to type "l" before it gives me latestchatty.x and we're good to go. In chrome, there is at least some kind of similar behavior, but it doesn't seem to do the "learning" thing. I can type "latestch" and the address bar will eventually list latestchatty.x in its results, but it never learns from my choice and it also doesn't let me tab through the list of results.
Are there any tweaks/preferences/etc that can be adjusted for the address bar?
</nitpick>

I'm trying to run Seatools, the Seagate HDD diagnostic utility, and because the Windows version seems useless, I'm trying to run the DOS one, but I get a stupid memory error probably because I'm trying to run it from a bootable USB because who the hell has a floppy drive these days, so I end up running UBCD...
Ah, long story short my USB keyboard is not recognized for input in Seatools. It is elsewhere in the BIOS; I have USB compatibility mode on. Anyway, do those PS2>USB adaptors work for keyboards?
Do any of you know of a program that reports what an installed program changes in the registry files? I've tried saving the registry before and after and diffing the two but that didn't work out so well, is there something out there that will show what Dragon Age (example) wrote to the registry when it was installed and what it took out of the registry when uninstalled?

This isn't about akimbo weapons or knife wielding ninjas though.
What is with all the shit that pops up on your screen? Does it bother anyone else? It really seems to obstruct my vision while I'm trying to play. I can't think of why they would have that shit pop up in the middle of my screen. I don't need "ULTRA KILL" and "HEADSHOT" in my face every time I kill someone.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/07/barnes-and-noble-nook-review/
I was starting to get a little worried about picking up the nook. Since shipments had been delayed, I didn't have mine yet and I was getting afraid that I was just going to turn around and return it since I already have a Kindle.
However, we went into a B&N store that has a demo unit and I got to play with it for a little while, assuaging my fears and making me look even more forward to the device. The build quality seems to be quite a bit higher than the Kindle, with ridges along the back for gripping along with a rubberized back to help hold on to it. The device is a little thicker, too, making it feel just a little more like a book, but also a bit smaller than the Kindle without the ridiculous keyboard at the bottom. The page buttons are integrated into the frame, so the issue I currently have with the Kindle (the page buttons are a bit cheap and I've already started to wear mine out) don't seem like they'll be much of a problem.
The big concern I had was with just how slow the nook appeared in the video and was talked about in the reviews. However, after using the one in the store, I have to wonder if the review models had a pre-1.0 firmware because the device was really no slower than my Kindle. Also, the fonts seemed much crisper and better suited to print, though that's probably my personal preferences.
All in all, it comes across as a really slick eReader that in the next year or two should become something amazing. B&N has already started mentioning that due to the device being an Android machine, that people may be able to write small apps for it in the future.
Now, to be fair, the touchscreen isn't the best (it's no iPhone, for sure), but since it's mostly a navigational tool without the need to be extremely responsive, I can give it slack. It does what it should, without any fuss, and removes what I considered the absolute worst feature of the Kindle.

Here's what I just listened to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyhngHpRWYo&feature=rec-rev-rn-1r-1-HM
I just don't care anymore and will never again buy a computer that is less than the best since I use it constantly. To me a few hundred bucks is well worth having the best and not having to investigate all of the other offerings on the market. That's maybe a couple days of working and in proportion to the number of days in the year where I'm constantly using my computer, it's well worth investing in the best without compromise as far as I'm concerned.
this is a macfag talking. he's my friend, and i get so annoyed at his constant apple flaunting. There is an email chain that is one friend asking what a good laptop to buy for getting deployed and it goes like this.
a: what computer should i get?
b: MACBOOKPRO
c:check out these asus
a:yeah i dont have a lot to spend
c:check out this dell
b:MACBOOKPRO DUDE
and on and on. it doesnt matter one bit, but he goes on and fucking on, and somehow i let it annoy me.
