Evening Reading: A Major Award
by Garnett Lee, Dec 03, 2009 6:48pm PSTI received my invitation to the Spike VGA's today. This will be the first year that I get to attend now that I live here in LA. It should be fun to check out the spectacle of it all. Watching from home in years past it always came off as more about creating a show and premiering exclusive trailers than the awards themselves. I'm definitely curious to get a sense of what it's like being there.
And it's just the beginning of the annual awards parade. I've been thinking about how we might go about acknowledging the standout games of 2009 here on Shacknews. A big part of that will come from all of you. There have already been several threads talking about the candidates and I'm open to suggestions on how best to cull that down to a consensus. To compliment that I also am working on a plan for how the staff gets incorporated into the mix -- or maybe has something that goes alongside. However it works out it's been a great year and one that deserves plenty of recognition.
Back to the here and now, these stories also merit some love:
- Once it was the CD game to have. Now Myst can be had digitally on Good Old Games
- Get a metal communicator insignia badge with Star Trek Online Collector's Edition
- Games for Windows Live adding on demand distribution service
- Max Payne 3 Delayed
- Saboteur DLC adds adult content including nudity for paying 360 and PS3 customers
- Win a trip to the Indy 500 by playing the Gran Turismo 'Time Trial' demo

Over the next two days I'll be driving solo from Georgia to Nebraska along this route:

Any one along the way want to meet up for a quick meal as I pass through? If so, send me a SM and we can try to work it out.

I still have no idea why I did it......it was a spur of the moment impulse reaction. I've never done anything like that before, I was kind of shocked afterwards. Looks like I am gonna be out about $50 for a new controller. Lesson = learned.

And now a two-part question. First, is there any way to test my video card to try to get it working? This is the preferable option because money is tight around here.
And secondly if it is toasted, what's the best in affordable video cards now that is equal to or better than my old GeForce 8600 GTS card? I tend to favor nVidia cards, though I'm not against the idea of running an ATI card. I'd like to keep it at $200-250 if possible.

A couple of gameplay questions, too. I've played Deus Ex before, so this won't be my first FPSRPG. But I'm not familiar with anything in this game or the Vampire universe. How should a new player start? Also, I've seen people here liken this game to Deus Ex (which is great by me), but what should I really expect while playing this?

They couldn't transfer my numbers. This is a big deal. I have (literally) over a thousand contacts. No, I don't use them all, and I don't want to take your flak about too many contacts blah blah blah.
I have figured out how to transfer contacts from my micro SD card to my droid, but I cannot seem to get them off my old phone (Motorola Hint (QA30)) Anyone have any ideas? I know that the contact info are in files, because I can text them, but for some reason there's no option to transfer them to the card. Just "send via text" or "send via bluetooth".
Can I Adhoc these phones and send the contact info 1 by 1 over bluetooth? That sounds better than manually typing in all the ones I actually use... I have a data cable to hook both up to PC, but no other software that would be required.
Would be willing to pay a small fee for software to do this, but freeware is preferred. :-\

Regarding Jowan: Poor bastard. I sent him into the veil to rescue Connor from the demon thinking it would redeem him in the eyes of Redcliffe folk. He gets out, successful, and gets thrown right in the hole with Adebisi. imo it should be the mother that is blamed for the whole mess. Maybe I missed something more to Jowan, though, than just 'oooo scary warlock type man is scary!'
I look forward to where this is going, and liking Rogue. Wish I had more direction at this point (Level 9) on how to unlock Duelist or Assassin, though.
Fuckin sweet game, though. Hope I can stay hooked.

My wife has been streaming video off the net, and its been fucking my ping something fierce when trying to play L4D2. So I've followed my buddies advice and downloaded Tomato for my Linksys, with the idea I'm going to throttle her connection a bit (at least the upload) so at least I can play, and she can watch her shows.
On top of that, my connection has been shit.
When to make sure my router was V4, and I stood up this morning and take a look at it, and it was gone.
Along with my DLS Modem. I was like, where the fuck did it go?
(I found them later, I think the cats knocked them over. They fell and were hidden behind the shelf they were on. But fuck I was confused for quite a while, thinking I moved them somewhere else in the house and forgot about it)
So will this Tomato thing work? I have a feeling my ping is 1000ms whenever she's streaming not because of the downstream, but some kind of P2P upstream clogging bs.

Is there a (preferably) free program to create drum tracks? I can record guitar just fine through Guitar Rig, but the only programs I can find for drums are cheesy.
Doesn't *have* to be free, anything will do as long as it's not a thousand dollar purchase price or something.
