Gran Turismo 5 'Time Trial Challenge' Demo Coming December 17, Includes Nationwide Contests

Over on the official PlayStation Blog Sony has announced a 'Gran Turismo Time Trial Challenge' demo that will be available for free via the PlayStation Network on December 17th. In it players climb behind the wheel of two different versions of the new Nissan 370Z - one in stock configuration, and the other tuned for racing - and compete for the best times on a single track.

As if getting another playable peek at Gran Turismo 5 isn't enough, residents in the U.S. and Canada get a little extra incentive to perfect their driving skills by competing in nationwide racing contests (one for each country). The speed-demons who achieve the fastest combined race times for both vehicles before the contest ends at 5PM (PST) on January 25, 2010, will receive two tickets to the Indy 500 on May 30, 2010, round trip airfare there, and hotel accommodations.

But wait, there's more! Each winner will also receive "...a VIP package which includes two all-access passes for Carb Day - which includes the final Indy 500 practice, pit stop competition, special concert festivities, special event car rides in the 2010 Indy 500 event vehicle, as well as all-access passes to the garage, pit area, and Victory Lane for pre- and post-race celebrations for the race and two (2) VIP suite tickets to enjoy the race."

Five runners-up each in the U.S. and Canada will receive a voucher to download a copy of Gran Turismo for the PSP. It's also worth noting that you must be at least 18 years old to be eligible to win. Check out the official contest rules for more information.

Whether or not you plan to compete don't wait to download the Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge. After the contest ends January 25th it won't be available; however, it'll still be playable for those who've already downloaded it. Gran Turismo 5 remains on schedule for a March 2010 release in Japan. North American and European release timing has yet to be confirmed.
