Evening Reading: Waggles Wobble On
by Garnett Lee, Nov 30, 2009 7:04pm PSTDuring the question and answer section of an investors call today Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed plans to support both Natal and Sony's unnamed wand motion controller for PS3 with a number of titles. He said that Ubi planned to release around ten games specifically for Natal during its first six months post release and something like half that many for the PS3 motion control system.
We've all seen the success of the Wii and plenty of that can be attributed to its controls. But how far do we really want to go with this whole getting up and dancing around in front of the TV thing. I'm not ready to just accept that it's the next big thing. Look at Tony Hawk Ride. Here's a well recognized franchise that now gets the skateboard controller many already probably imagined playing the game with and it's not a big hit. It doesn't seem to be setting sales figures on fire and neither has it won critical acclaim. And while there's definitely truth to the notion that maybe there's been one too many Tony Hawk games already, the success of Skate and all those other Hawk games tells me that there's a lot of people out there who also just aren't so excited about flopping around their living room to play a game.

I mentioned earlier that my house was broken into and my laptop was stolen. Well my housemates Macbook was stolen too. She had a huge itunes playlist with songs that she had purchased from itunes but also songs she had added manually.
Because I don't use itunes, i'm wondering if the playlist is tied to your itunes account? even with songs which were not purchased through itunes, but only played within itunes. Recovering her entire playlist would be awesome.
Also, no pics of housemate. The robbers have them. So if you could track them down and recover the photos and our gear that would be sweet.

I need to have a nice way to store 4-8TB of data (4 now, but will probably be 8 in the near future)
i would love for it to be some kind of RAID solution whereby if a drive fails i can replace it and not lose any data.
i would like it to be as cheap as possible (so starting at 4tb with room to add more)
now i know i can do this with a pc and linux/windows home server/whatever, but id rather not have to do it that way and am tempted to buy a standalone raid box thingy. (with a family my time is more expensive than the cost difference )
so i guess im looking at an esata/gigE box with 8slots for hdds that can take 2tb drives.
does any one have any recommendations / Things to avoid like the plague ?

Free sci-fi novella online. Very well-written, and a pretty intriguing and, probably, horrifyingly accurate look at the downsides of a technological singularity.

I regularly check the top sellers and as far as I can recall, this is the first time I've seen a non-valve game selling for $5 and outsell every other game.
DVD Shrink + Handbrake is god-awfully easy. And fast, at least for the ripping portion. It can rip a 3 hour movie in about 30 minutes which is really impressive.
Any tips for Handbrake? I've been using a output file size of 800-900mb, but I'm wondering if I could get better results using the quality slider. Thoughts?

At the end of last night's episode, Wilson was sitting with the guy to whom he had given part of his liver, and asking him about his ex-wife. The guy said, "The people you want to be with when you're dying are not the same you want to be with when you're living," and then the new wife came up and said, "hi, Jim," and Wilson said, "it's James," and wheeled himself off.
Did Wilson realize the guy was just using him?

I only started watching it a few weeks ago, and it's damned funny. Lots of good nerd jokes, lots of good general comedy and Neil Patrick Harris? morelike Neil Patrick HILARIOUS.
