There is a complexity that I'm sure hardcore people love having all the nitty gritty details. But then there is such a complexity that the game almost requires you to constantly be looking up things in a Wiki how things operate (not to mention, player misinformation.) So much so that they've made this in-game browser (It servers more purposes than just that, corp websites and such)
A similar correlation that I think could be drawn in how Blizzard is doing a major overhaul to their Armor/crit/dodge/resilience/hitrating/hitcap/defensecap/etc systems. You had to leave the game to go understand how to effectively be a Tank, DPS, Heal. With the expansion they are lumping all those things into simpler Buffs like Strength/Intellect/Spirit/Agility/etc and from the sounds of it, keeping all those old numbers but hiding them from the players; letting the developers to tweak.
Are they going too simple? Some hardcore WoW min-max'ers will probably not like it. I'm sure there is a better range for EVE that could cater to both hardcore and newer players. I'd say though, WoW's complexity is WAY less, even in it's current state than EVE's.
I really want to love and play this game more.
