Final Fantasy 13 Trailer: All Aboard the Giant Flying Monster Thing

With Final Fantasy XIII hitting Japan in less than a month, developer Square Enix has issued a lengthy new Japanese language trailer for the anticipated console RPG.

The PlayStation 3 edition of Final Fantasy XIII launches in Japan come December 17, with North America and Europe both getting PS3 and Xbox 360 versions on March 9.

WOW what the hell was that. The new Final Fantasy soap opera? This is going to be one crazy game.

Also, why does damage have to go up into the multi-thousands? Is it somehow cooler to do 9586 damage than 95 damage? You can't even read those numbers. The combat looks very much like FFXII.

On the plus side, the action cutscenes were typical FF awesomeness, and the enemies looked cool.

soooo this game is going to be awesome and im going to finally buy a ps3 cuz of it. Some innovations include, a hero with facial hair, really hot women that kick ass, and a token black guy with a pet chicken. Not to mention the motorcycles, explosions, and tear jerking drama, i can only hope that they will kill one of the main characters half way through the game and this will be an instant classic.

Seriously though, aren't we past these 1998 graphics? for all the hype they build around these games and the insane amount of time it takes to get them out, you would at least expect the gameplay graphics to be awesome (esp in a FF series game) these look like they were ripped from a PS2. FMVs just aint going to cut it for me.

The last 2/3rds is really incredible! When they're falling out of the airship and they Summon: Awesome. I would buy the game just to see that in full 1080p.

It looks dramatic, but I don't think it crosses into "emo" -- but that word is kind of a dumb blanket term. I take it to mean like "sulky". In this they are very serious, but not sulky. Nothing wrong with a game taking itself seriously, especially considering the kinds of nearly religious games that usually play these games.

Looks brilliant :)
