Morning Discussion

by Alice O'Connor, Nov 25, 2009 6:00am PST

I am swimming in open-world games. This morning I entered the second act of Far Cry 2, last night I fired up Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, and Grand Theft Auto IV arrived a few moments ago. Technically I could probably have played all these on my old PC but I find these sorts of open-world games only truly come alive when you can crank the draw distance and drink in the atmosphere as the developers intended it to be.

I'll happily play a linear shooter on settings so low it makes Quake look good but an open world is an experience worth savouring. So far, I am very glad indeed that I waited to play all these, even if I did miss out on the super fun Shacknews chatty discussions.

  • Amazon is actually doing right for Kindle owners, just got this email:

A new Kindle software update is now available and will be automatically delivered to your Kindle. We are constantly working on improving the Kindle user experience and have included the following features in this update:

Built-in PDF Reader: Your Kindle can now display PDF documents natively. Native PDF support allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go.

Adjustable Screen Rotation: The Kindle screen can now manually rotate between portrait and landscape views.

Good, there's no reason why any of the Kindle DX features outside of hardware like the orientation sensor (duh) shouldn't also be in the Kindle 2.
