Update: Surely in response to the revelation, Pandemic has announced that Mercenaries Inc. is under development by the remaining "core team" at EALA.

The downsized and "consolidated" Pandemic Studios was working on a multiplayer entry in its shooter series Mercenaries, according to a demonstration video released by former Pandemic effects artist Dorian Compo and noticed by superannuation.

"This was the first demo for Mercenaries Incorporated. Pandemic Studios next multiplayer sandbox game," Compo explains, noting "To [sic] bad it was cancelled because the effects were coming along." Compo's resume lists Mercenaries Inc. as under development for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 until being cancelled this winter.

More Mercenaries was expected, given Mercenaries 2's strong sales and then-EA Publishing chief operating officer John Pleasants' declaration that "there will be a Mercenaries 3, and if I can have anything to do with it, there will be a Mercenaries 10."

Compo's resume also reveals another unannounced Pandemic project was cancelled in summer 2008, titled 'Legends' and planned for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Pandemic was known to be working on two "mystery projects" at the time of the cuts. With Mercenaries Inc. revealed, one yet remains unknown. EA has stated that "A core team of Pandemic developers will move to EALA and continue development on Pandemic games with a focus on quality, cost management and schedule integrity," though it is unknown whether this "core" team will continue the mystery title.

Pandemic's stealth shooter The Saboteur will hit PC, 360 and PS3 on December 8. Several developers bid their farewells in true Pandemic style--with a spot of destruction.
