Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, Nov 24, 2009 6:00am PSTIt's a shame you can't choose the day because today is Tuesday. Now there's a hilarious piece of observational office humour you won't find in any newspaper comic strips.
We do have video games too, mind. Loads of them. Big games, little games, long games, short games, indie games, AAA games, console games, PC games--and all of them involving some form of violence. Downright hilarious observational video game comedy is on tap too, apparently. What a barrel of laughs we are today. Ho ho ho.

Because I would figure that'd be an easy "Sure, hope she feels better", rather than "I will be happy to accept a late assignment if you can provide a doctor's note for days it is late", but this cunt seems to feel otherwise.

I got some great comments for my resume a few days ago. I really appreciate the help.
I have one more question...
As an engineering professional coming out of college with my masters, should I have a resume that is more than two pages long?
The reason I ask is that if I include both my projects and work history throughout college, I will be at two pages. Is this wrong? Should I keep it at one page? HALP!

Seattle Times' Brier Dudley interviews Red Octane co-founder Kai Huang:
Q: Will "DJ Hero" outsell "The Beatles: Rock Band"?
A: We're planning for it to be the No. 1 new [intellectual property] of the year. So, yeah, we're excited about it.
So, about those DJ Hero sales figures...
Q: What's next -- what genre is left?
A: We're really just at the beginning of music games. What we love and what we're constantly looking at is, how do you expose people to new music and new instruments? In the U.S., country music is obviously very popular. Globally, classical music has always been very interesting. Latin music -- there are just so many different genres of music and instruments that haven't been tapped into yet.
*sigh* So they don't think this franchise has cratered yet. "Maybe people just ran out of room for plastic crap." http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/11/18/

Okay, backstory. Back before Mass Effect was going to be released I remember seeing videos and screenshots and noticed something that bugged me about the game's HUD. There was this large, blue floating targeting graphic that was basically on screen at all times when something in the area interactive, such as an NPC or item chest. And it was even visible through your character as seen here: http://www.shackpics.com/files/ScreenShot00001_5k3zl1vyyt1nvm66lhva.jpg
I remember asking Bioware for an option to disable this, because it sort of ruined any sense of exploration and lessens immersion if you can immediately see what you can "use" because it's highlighted with this thing even when you aren't anywhere near it, or possibly not even looking in its direction with the camera. After playing the game a few times on the 360 I got used to it, but I still didn't care for how prevalent it was.
Cut to how many years later, I fire up the game on the PC for the first time and am reminded how annoying this thing can be. It also seems to jitter around when you are moving your character or the camera, it's not smooth. It's ugly, it sticks out in a bad way. So I ended up looking for a way to modify it, perhaps make the texture transparent but couldn't come up with anything and I'm clueless with UE3. I ended up looking through the configs as a last ditch effort that there might be something in there, and lo and behold, there it was!
Now it's gone as you can see: http://www.shackpics.com/files/ScreenShot00002_4cef9gj9vuivsrmzfs7x.jpg
You'll notice the info at the top of the screen still showing you what is highlighted even though you can't see the reticule, but that's all you really need. You aren't totally in the dark, it's out of the way and easier to ignore and this big blue thing is not jumping all over the screen. Awesome. PC wins, I love it.

-Checking the UPS site every hour to find the status of the package.
-Waiting at home to hear the grumble and screeching brakes of the big brown truck
-Hearing that oh so familiar door slam sound and seeing him carry the brown boxes up to my house only to meet him half way.
-Tearing apart all the boxes looking for the inards and starting the construction.
I just finished up a HTPC that I am typing this out and will post it later tonight. The build was basically around this case http://www.silentpcreview.com/Antec_Fusion_Remote_Max
I will post some pics of the build in ER but the case is great, dropped my vid card/cpu temps by about 5 degrees

Let's clear this shit up right now - there are a lot of jockeys and smokers and spitters and horde that come up from behind, especially in the final stretch. You can't walk backwards and shoot or else you will fall off the ledge.
You have to communicate as a group if you want to all make it. I mean, if you want that person to just be zombie bait (sacrifice one so 3 survive) then cool. But if you all actually want to make it to the helicopter you have to help out the people covering your fucking six. They aren't just back there checking out the scenery.

HUGE MOTHERFUCKING SPOILERS, DON'T READ ASSHOLE!!!
So, the piecing together of Codexes and Glyphs and Puzzles were pretty great in explaining all of the crazy historical events and atrocities.
From what I can tell from the last codex, Altair may still be alive since he says he's going to try and see what the Apple can do in extending life. We know he travelled to take down Genghis Khan although was old at the time, but we don't know what happened after that. Kublai Khan (Genghis' son) had the codex in the 13th and 14th century and was the one to return it to Marco Polo.
The whole Garden of Eden thing was very well done, it didn't feel convoluted or poorly done, and was nicely built up to with the glyphs. I wonder how many other Pieces of Eden (PE) there are around the world - there were lots referenced in possession of Templars and Assassins. We know there's already been two Apples (one destroyed for Abstergo's satellite, Ezio + Altair's). It was pretty cool how they tied in the PE's apperance throughout history too, like Tesla destroying the staff in Tunguska.
I think the next game may take place over many time periods, seeing all the descendents of Altair, though that'd be a huge change from being in an consistent open-world. It would be awesome if it turned out something like Hitler's death was at the hands of an Assassin though. I just can't see how they're going to pull off getting past people with guns.
