Offering the general public a chance to sample Star Trek Online prior to its launch in early February, developer Cryptic has announced that it will be hosting an open beta for the sci-fi PC MMO from January 12, 2010 through January 26, 2010.

Keys will be distributed on a "first come first serve basis" through the game's official site, the developer explained, with the company also offering up this new trailer:

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

I think I got taken for a sucker.

Glad I paid for my lifetime sub to CO.... I enjoyed CO until they broke the hell out of it. Also, exclusive access to the STO beta sounded pretty good.

    Until now.

Honestly, I hope STO crashes and burns now. Maybe I can start a petition like those dudes did and Bill Roper will fly me to Cryptic Studios for free and I'll punch him right in the throat.

Sign me up as well-I was a sucker as well...nice to see them deliver on their promises :(

I thought I was to be first come when I paid for subscription. If you are going to screw me at least buy me dinner first-oh wait I already paid-dumb customer!

NEVER buy a lifetime sub for ANYTHING.

I'm surprised you didn't learn the lesson of Hellgate:London.

Worked for LOTRO it seems. Though i guess that Turbine must be losing money on those lifetime subs sold by now, if the people who bought 'em sub are still playing.
