Evening Reading: Faylure Averted
by Chris Faylor, Nov 18, 2009 6:00pm PSTI was rather worried today wouldn't bring anything on par with yesterday's Mass: We Pray trailer, but it seems my concerns were misplaced. Good show, Pringles Asia.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to hunt down some form of sustenance before hunkering down for tonight's Left 4 Dead 2 session. But first, a look at today's top stories:
- Broken Records: Activision Trumpets Modern Warfare 2 Sales
- Army of Two Sequel Trailer: Army of Bling
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Benchmark Tool Released
- No More Heroes Coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
By the way, CNN wants you to know that Barack Obama can indeed answer questions. Meanwhile, it seems that computers can now think like cats.

PC gamers, on the other hand, had access to these things before they were controlled by a monetized system. Addons were free--not just user made addons but developer made addons as well. Many devs even included free content along with their official patches (Unreal Tournament comes to mind). Sometimes really big updates were sold as expansion packs, but even those were reasonably priced and rarely cost the price of a full game. Nowadays, addons that would have been free now cost $10. Expansion packs that would have cost $30-40, are being released as standalone games at full price.
I guess we can blame it on piracy, or the successful console market that is more willing to shell out the extra cash, but it still sucks. Unfortunately I don't see it changing for the better any time soon. I did my part, I didn't buy MW2 because I'm waiting until I can pick it up used for ~$40 because that's what it's worth to me. But my part doesn't mean shit, especially looking at the sales numbers of MW2 at launch.
