Grand Theft Auto 4 DLC Coming to PC?

32
A new Grand Theft Auto 4 patch released for PC today, which GTAForums.com users report silently adds support for achievements from 'The Lost And Damned,' the downloadable content which has so far been exclusive to the Xbox 360 version.

The six Games for Windows Live achievements reportedly arriving in this latest patch correspond to the Xbox Live achievements added by The Lost and Damned, which hit Xbox 360 in February with a tale of Liberty City motorcycle gang The Lost.

Microsoft paid Rockstar $50 million in 2007 for exclusivity on two DLC packs, and declared its Xbox 360 "the only console where you can get the complete Grand Theft Auto IV experience" at a time when the PC version had yet to be announced.

Shacknews has contacted Rockstar for comment. The 98MB patch can be downloaded from FileShack, with its list of changes following below.

General:
  • Convert all region SKU's into the same SKU.
  • Include support for all languages within single exe.
Controls:
  • Allow controls to be double mapped on keyboard.
  • Added option in controls menu to disable mouse controls in helicopters.
  • Adjust keyboard control sensitivity in hood cam view in vehicles.
Multiplayer:
  • Security Updates to deter cheating in multiplayer.
  • Hosts can now immediately Kick users from their games in Lobby and in game via Cell phone without having to rely on peer voting.
  • Fixed a bug in Cops 'n Crooks mode where Host would drop out and prevent remaining players from leaving game.

fuck this game for PC, I was burned so bad on this game, it was the reason I purchased a GTX260 only to have it not run or work worth a shit. First game I ever demanded my money back from Gamestop and got it.

I'm a freakishly picky PC gamer and this game looks and runs like it was sent directly from heaven on my system: GTX 260 SC (evga), Q9550, 8 gigs RAM. Vista 64. Fix your shit!

It works fine as long as you have a quad core CPU. I don't know why but it's what it's bottlenecked on, if you have a quad, you'll run it fine, if you don't, you should probably skip it. I have a Q6600 and it worked great for me, for example.

Worked fine on my core 2 @ 3.7ghz & 8800U on unlocked highest settings. 40 fps avg.

With all due respect, yes there is. People with PC's whose specs are lower than yours (including mine) are reporting more success than you are.

That being said, this is an example of why PC gaming is so difficult - the magic combination of parts/OS/programs can make or break your gaming experience whereas every console gamer gets the same experience, for better or for worse

Ive been gaming on pcs since the original doom days, I have built all of my own gaming machines, I work on computers for a living. I know what Im doing and there is nothing wrong with my computer.

here is a brief example of what i have to do to play games the way i want.
Games that are coming out recently have this trend where you cannot map the arrow keys or the right mouse button. I have to use GlovePIE to re-write my entire keyboard mapping to get it to work the way I want (most recent Manhunt2 for PC). I had to buy a mouse (razer deathadder) so i can remap the mouse clicks to a keyboard command so i can use the right mouse button to move forward (red faction guerrilla). I had to download a special overlapping driver for my mouse (MAFmouse) so i can play inverted since some games don't give the option, thank you wanted weapons of fate.

So with all do RESPECT there is NOTHING WRONG WITH MY SHIT. I am a PC gamer and with pc gaming comes the territory of shit not working right or the way you want so you have to find workarounds. GTAIV was an unworkable pile of crap. Now can we get passed the comments that state " get a better computer" or " you don't know what your doing"

If you took 5 minutes to browse the forums you would notice that I'm not a minority with the fucking game

wait...you're a pc gamer and you use the arrow keys??

just yanking yer chain, but seriously: I had an identical setup to yours when I first played GTA4 (release day on steam). I had an 8800GT and it ran like ass. I then upgraded to a GTX260 just for this game and..... it still ran like ass.

Then they patched the game and it ran about 30% better....significant, but still not perfect.

Down the line I upgraded to a quad...Q9550 which my mobo (and yours, probably) luckily supported. I also threw in another 4 gigs of RAM (meaningless, but just fyi)

It was as if the heavens parted and Jesus smiled down upon me with a huge shit-eating grin. Seriously, with the right hardware combo and hacking the ini to remove all graphics restrictions, this game will blow you away graphically. IMO nothing on PC holds a candle to it in terms of overall graphics.

yeah my next step was to try a quad core but i already got a refund for the game. anyways thanks for the serious response.

Yeah what can I say about the arrow keys, Ive been using them since i started gaming and im too stubborn to learn wasd

        vista latest updates

This was my setup when the game first came out and it failed to run. Almost a year later and i still would NOT spend 5 dollars on this shit even with a better computer

The only problem is the shitty PC port. With that set up he's able to play every other modern game at normal/high settings easily.

What settings are you running on?

Balls-out it needs a quad core. You should be able to pick a setting it can run at with that proc

I also have a C2D E8500 and GTX 260, running Win7 now and I'm getting 32 to 58fps (Low-High) and averaging at 40fps with the latest Nvidia drivers, though there seems to be some bug with the camera going crazy in some cut scenes... everything else has been fine.

You should've gotten an HD4850 instead. Runs smooth as silk on mine.

I like how the game informs you of the atrocious amount of VRAM it needs for playing in full quality - something like 750 MB. So a 1 GB card is definitely a plus.

My main problem is the game itself isn't very fun.

That's because gta4 relies heavily on your cpu and not so much on your gpu. What cpu do you have? At least you need to have a quad core...

In summary, the GTA IV PC port requires a quad core processor.

No it does not, as said before it worked fine on my core 2 3.7 ghz without a hitch. No worse that a similarly clocked quad.

thank you exactly my point, this game is just poorly coded, if you read the forums from PC to PC this game either runs or it doesnt. 8800 nvidia users get better performance than 260 users etc etc. its a mad cluster fuck

I just bought it for PC a week ago and it works just fine for me.

Of course, I had the collectors for the XBox, but still... no real problems.

Good console ports should not run worse than consoles on PCs with hardware approximately 3-4 times as powerful
