Shack PSA: Mass Effect PC $10 on Steam

38

With BioWare's Mass Effect 2 fast approaching and the studio's latest, Dragon Age: Origins, having just arrived, digital distribution platform Steam has knocked 50% off the first Mass Effect--making the futuristic RPG just $9.99 in the United States.

The discount will run through the weekend, providing you with plenty of time to tackle Shepard's initial galactic adventure before the sequel arrives on January 26.

      This game is worth hell of a lot more than $10. Mass Effect was a good time. I rarely complete games and I was hooked enough to take interest in completing it with out feeling burned out. I agree about stalker though. I would never pay retail price for that game. Was a let down but I'll give it more time and patience and see how that changes...of course after completing some other games first. *cough* dragon age.

      I would like to know that too. Saints Row 2 was hardly worth the $5, and the same goes for Assassins Creed for a lot of people (According to the comments here)

        I would'nt play either of those games on a PC. for any amount. Console versions were alright but I lost interest in them quickly.

      You got burned on $5 for STALKER. I can't imagine how that's possible.

        He probably meant that the game sucked so hard that it appeared before purchase to be a gourmet sandwich but biting into it and getitng a taste it was more like a shit sandwich and $5 totally wasted on something that appeared promising.

          His taste buds might be broken then, because Stalker is TASTY.

            That is what I'm trying to convince myself with. The game has promise but I'm trying to get over the shitty controls. I hate when I run the camera sways back and forth. When I blast enemies it seems they take a lot more bullets to bring down unless they are wearing armored jackets or something. It just seems to lack a little polish but I'm sure if I spend a little more time with it, it will end up growing on me and I'll enjoy it more.

              There are head bob mods that reduce / remove headbob. There are mods that improve stability / fix bugs. There are mods that make the game look way prettier (assuming your machine can handle it).

              As for taking down enemies: headshots headshots headshots. Enjoy the exploration. It's you against the Zone, don't let it beat you >:}

                  Try Stalker Complete 2009 Mod. It doesnt do anything with gameplay, basically everything is the same, just a little more (in fact a lot) polished.

              The game is very different from traditional shooters but once you get acclimated it's a breath of fresh air. Try to go for more precise headshots, they play a key role in being able to quickly take down enemies. What this game got right is how desperate the environment is and how difficult survival is. Your goal here isn't to take down every possible enemy - that is an exercise in futility. Instead you must carefully weigh the benefits and consequences to each engagement and what kind of risk/reward you're expecting.

          I beat stalker, loved the environment. Awesome firefights. It's clunky UI is the big turnoff, but if you play it for 20 minutes and get into the groove it's excellent. I felt burned on the expansion pack though.

      Do you like western RPGs? Do you like Bioware games?

      It sounds like it's a good port, with a better UI than the 360 version. You probably want to get some folks to speak up about how it looks bug-wise after the 1.02 patch.

      This game is worth every cent, do not pass it up. I played the PC version and for me it ran flawlessly. If you do get this don't forget to download the free DLC Bring Down the Sky.
