Okay, so... I had a membership at a 24 Hour Fitness that I used for six months or something. I was moving out of the area, so I canceled the membership on like October 15th, give or take a day or two. They tell me my membership is active until the 21st or so. Great. Then on October 26th I get a charge for the next month, which doesn't make me particularly happy, given that it's a long time after I canceled and also a pretty long time after my last possible date of visit. I called them up about it, and they tell me that they have a "30 day cancellation policy", meaning in effect that you have to cancel a month in advance of the next billing period date if you want to avoid getting billed for the next month.

It seems to me that they're basically making you pay for an extra month of service that you won't be able to use the facilities, and that's pretty shitty. I'm thinking of just disputing the charge. Has anyone encountered a situation like this before?

Just my luck, er'd I hate life lol.

So, got the new rig 2nite. Put it all together & nothing. Powers up for 1/4 second & goes off. I've reseated everything like 3-4 times, cleaned off arctic goo & reapplied, tried ram in different slots, tried another cpu fan etc etc.

Anything else to try? I'm leaning towards a bum CPU, mobo or PSU (all of which are new). The mobo looks fine, PSU looks fine BUT the CPU looks like it may have some damage. If you hold it in the right light, there are two prongs in the back that don't match w/ the rest. It's not black or anything, but if the two are held in the right light they definitely have a "white tint" to them, while all the rest are gold.

Ugh, I'll probably give it another go tomorrow, but if anyone else has something to try, I'm all ears.

i had to delete my TF2 local files

i found myself constantly loading it up to the neglect of other fantastic games on my PC. it's like, it's an easy game to play because you've memorized the maps/weapons/routes and just sit back and let this reptilian reflex part of your brain take over. it was starting to suck. i had been playing the game for two years! hundreds of hours that could have been spent playing 20 other titles start to finish, ugh.

this is probably a modicum of what hardcore WoW'ers feel when they quit.

Paranormal Activity:

I thought it was pretty crappy. Spoilers the initial buildup was pretty good, when things were kept to the unexplained, bump noises etc it was going well, but as soon as things got blatantly fictional i.e. the footprints, the clawed picture, the burning ouija board I lost interest. Oh well, at an hour and 40 minutes it was a good date movie I'd say.

I pulled around 5 hours of play time with Dragon Age last night. Managed to make a Human Noble Warrior who's @5th lvl right now. The game feels very large and epic in gameplay...I like it. I found myself wanting to play more that I should because of work the next day. I'm getting annoyed by all the locked chests I have to pass up though. My party is needing a Rogue very soon.

Manwasher may have been right about the difficulty. I'm playing on normal but when I ran into the first mini boss o{Ogre in the final level of the tower where I'm suppose to light the beacon}o my party would get destroyed each time we fought. I probably got him down to 35% health at most during the 10 fights but he would always destroy my party. I had to change the difficulty to Easy to beat him. Has anyone beat him on normal? If yes, how'd you do it?

A few quick thoughts on why I've really been happy using IMPULSE, Stardock's proprietary digital download system:

1. Unlike STEAM, games actually download extremely fast from IMPULSE - I just saw a bigger thread here in the chatty tonight griping about the slow STEAM download for Dragon Age and I totally agree. I never seem to have this issue when I'm using Impulse.

2. Unlike STEAM, I can actually choose where to have my games downloaded to - since I, like many of us - have more than one hard-drive, I love having the freedom to actually choose where my games are installed. Wish STEAM had this.

Those are my main two issues and they're the reason why I'm probably going to switch over to Impulse for more future purchases. I'm still using STEAM and it's very functional in other ways but not in the primary ways that I care about.

Steam does offer the Friends list and Achievements but considering that I frequently get stuck with jerkwads joining my L4D games due to the multi-layered approach Valve takes to interpreting the "Only Friends Server" setting - allowing friends of friends of friends, apparently - I tend to get stuck with the dregs of online gaming. So the Friends list? Not a huge plus for me in one of my most favorite of all Valve games. :( The Achievements? Nothing but digital cotton candy, just like XBL achievements...meaningless for me (I know some folks love 'em).

What I care about are fast download speeds of my purchases and being allowed to put those purchases where I have Hard Drive space or where I want those games to be specifically installed.

I'm not saying STEAM sucks - I've used it and I love the sales, especially - but I think the key elements at the heart of digital downloading are better served by Impulse. Just my opinion, not trying to rip on Valve or Steam. But I've just really enjoyed my experience with Impulse so far.

Enlighten me Shack!

If I wanted to get a 360 and hook it up to my monitor and sit at my computer desk to play 360 games what would I need cablewise to make that happen?

My monitor has VGA and DVI hookups but that's it. It's a Dell G2410. Its native resolution is 1920x1080. Also I would like to have the sound go into some headphones if that's possible.

I dropped my iphone in the toilet :'(

It was at about 7am after pulling an all nighter for a paper, was taking a shower, picked up my jeans on the floor which had the phone in the pocket, the phone fell out of the pocket straight into the toilet.

I grabbed it right away, but I was really tired and not thinking straight so I immediate pressed the button to see whether it was still working, the screen was dim and got dimmer until it was blank. Now it won't turn on.

Is it hopeless for me now? :(

I just heard an unconfirmed report that Modern Warfare 2 does not have lean. The dedicated servers fiasco was not a deal breaker for me. Same old gameplay, just a new delivery system, right? But now...we get a real console part. Yay. 9v9 player max, host migration, and no console.

Back in May despite having not written anything outside a few perl scripts since high school. I decided to try writing an iphone game. Well after bashing my head through learning MacOS, Objective-C and Opengl I finally completed my game. Here it is:

I think I'm suffering from post sickness depression. Is there such a thing? I have no energy, no motivation. I can't even stand doing things I would normally love doing. Now I mostly just want to curl up in a ball and do pretty much nothing. This sucks.

Man, I thought L4D ran okay on the 360, but the sequel is slicker n' owl shit! They must gave done some heavy optimizations for it.

I think I'm addicted to melÃ©e weapons now. I felt annoyed when I had to switch back to using guns. After a careful study, although I appreciate the sober bonging sound of the cast-iron pan mashing in heads, I think I like the guitar the best.

Post script: Is the word melÃ©e ever used outside the context of gaming?
