Left 4 Dead 'Dawn of the Dead'-Inspired Custom Campaign Released
This first public beta contains five maps--the finale arrives in a future release--of zombie mall fun for co-op or versus, complete with new props, sounds, music, voice-overs and even a new line from Francis, on show in the following pre-release teaser trailer.

They rushed this out just to reach the Halloween release date. It's extremely bug filled and still needs a lot of work done.

Yah, that's a really good point. It's not like "beta" is a real term used in the games development cycle, and it's not as if every game (and especially mods) goes through a beta phase. I mean, lets be honest here, the people making these games are lazy assholes. We're doing them a favor by playing their games for free. At least there are intelligent, insightful gamers like you out there to point out how lame and stupid they are, right? Thanks for pointing that out, man. The gaming community could use more people like you. You're really smart, man.

Exactly. I've been looking forward to this campaign, but I've decided to wait for a less buggy version to be released. However, it's great that they kept their Halloween release promise and gave people the option to experience what's been developed so far.
I will say that it might have made more sense to release the campaign one polished map at a time before finally compiling them into a campaign. User-made episodic content sounds fantastic to me.

Are you kidding me?
A beta is a beta. Do you seriously expect the developers of a free mod to release a 100%, fully polished, completely done and finished product to the public the first time around?
They want the community to help by testing and giving feedback. There's no revenue model here. For them, it makes complete sense to release early.
If someone doesn't want to play a beta, they can wait for a final version.
