First Natural Selection 2 Screenshots Released

To celebrate the seventh anniversary of its Half-Life multiplayer mod Natural Selection, independent developer

Unknown Worlds Entertainment today issued the first screenshots from its impending standalone sequel Natural Selection 2.

Marines in a hallway and the Skulk's "bite-cam."

Powered by Unknown's proprietary "Spark" engine, the multiplayer-focused game mixes elements of strategy with first-person shooting action. It's slated to arrive via Steam in 2010, with those that pre-order getting access to the level editor in November.

The only reason I stopped playing the first one was because fades were way to overpowered.

There's no stopping a person who can play a good fade. No matter how many marines you have or the marines skill level.

I will definitely support Unknown Worlds. NS hails as one of the best mods of all time, for any engine, period.

The new content all looks amazing and they will be listening to their community like a hawk when this game rolls out.

I'm glad they didn't sell out or buy in. GJ Unkown Worlds!

Really loving the first screenshot. I really hate it how everything in many today's games looks wooden (characters included.) Half Life 2/source is probabaly greatest example of this. Im glad that there is atleast one developer out there who realized that metal should look like metal, clothing like cloth, etc. I really love how the light is glinting off the metal.

played NS1 for years, waited for NS2 for years, and theres a release date now (2010) oh my gerbils!, hope my ati 5770 can play it on high. it's a little strange Valve didnt buy up the NS mod like they did with CS and Day of Defeat.

I preordered the 40$ version for early access.

This engine looks beautiful and a small 4-5 person team developing the game as independant studio.

YES YES YES!!

There have been two mods in my gaming lifetime that have been so much better than anything else out there. The first was the original Team Fortress mod for quake 1 back in the Quake World Days.

The second was NS1. THANK YOU GOD FOR CREATING THE MODDERS WHO MADE THESE GAMES.

Eagerly awaiting the alpha.

Pre-ordered the "deluxe" version the day it was announced. Played the first one for years for free, I figure I owe them at least that much! Plus I get Alpha access and shiny black armour. Oh hell yes.

Also, the jaw-cam looks pretty awesome comparing it to the original model. Heehee, I can't wait.

looks fantastic. They really knew what they were doing with the hl1 tech, and it looks as if they know what they are doing with source too. However, These shots aren't giving a lot away other than their art is very polished. I hope the more open environments look as awesome as the corridors :)
