Dead Space 2 Due Next Year, Claims Report

13
Though we still don't know much regarding Dead Space 2, it appears we'll know more relatively soon, as Reuters has pegged the horror sequel for a 2010 release.

While technically unannounced, the sequel has been mentioned by both job listings and staff members of series publisher Electronic Arts. Developed by Visceral Games (formerly EA Redwood Shores) the horror-action franchise premiered on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October. A Wii prequel, Extraction, arrived earlier this year.

I really doubt it this time around. I think I read somewhere, though I could be wrong, that the PC sales were abysmal and that people pirated the game way too much on the PC. For their sakes (not EA, but the developers) I would rather they did NOT make it for the PC, even though I would love to play it on my new laptop.

        I agree.

Since it's obvious they can't get it right, why even bother? And this question goes pretty much to every dev out there.

No matter what, they will directly port the consolitis UI, maintain a forced acceleration or smoothing on the mouse (speaking generally here regarding many many console ports) force a cramped FOV or letterboxed widescreen on a 16:10 ratio. And IF any online component would be planned, it would certainly be via p2p.

So yea, don't bother. I'm sure if anyone wants to play a console game, they would rather play it on their consoles... or just torrent it.

I recently heard the new Rebellion AvP won't have any dedicated server support either. They are really forcing the rest of us to move on, or just get a console.

I thought Dead Space was fine on PC. Lots of people had that initial reaction shock with the controls. I thought it was more to do with the actual design of the game, something most PC gamers aren't perhaps used to compared to controllers? Took me about 30 minutes to get into it and then it was a completely non issue. It ran great, looked fantastic. Low sales is disappointing and I did hear that, but it wasn't a huge seller over the 3 platforms anyway, 1.4 million copies or something. Who knows, maybe the Steam sales have added some incentive to continue with the PC version.

I completely agree on the "ran great, looked fantastic" part. And as you put it, the problem was indeed with the design.

I think PC gamers just get annoyed, when you force them into a mold which they cannot shape or in any way effect upon. The camera angle and the clunky mouse were probably the biggest annoyances in the game. I had the constant sensation, that the only reason I felt threatened in the environment, was because I wasn't able to manoeuvre my self properly.

And while I think it was a brave way to perhaps break some traditions and try new things, it's not the best way to design gameplay; by leaving us wrecked within our own devices. Playing a game shouldn't feel like a drag, just in order to make you scared.

And frankly my beef isn't with Dead Space. It's with the general indifference of the devs to get those few important things right for the PC; such as controls, FOV, UI and (if you plan any online component) dedicated servers.

Do we really need to go through the same drama over and over with every PC release? Year after year? At what point does it become a complete exercise in futility? I've been recently burnt again so badly by both OFDR (yes it was probably to be expected) and Borderlands, I went and cancelled all my standing pre-orders besides Dragon Age. And yes, that includes MW2.

Right now I'm rocking Torchlight and Risen, and remain hopeful for Dragon Age, and maybe Divinity 2.

Have you tried Resident Evil 5? It's a similar game, with similar mechanics only in my experience much worse. Essentially you can't move with shooting, or move when reloading or turn when reloading. I did not find Dead Space with mouse too bad on PC, but RE5 had horrible controls for me. Not because of the port job but because of those game mechanics.

It's not "great" on a PC. It runs well, but consolitis *is* a problem. Bindings had some severe problems; it forced me to use AutoHotkey for bindings that are otherwise completely possible on any other random game.

Not to mention a lot of people hated the third person perspective, but this is more subjective.

A Logitech G9 with Vsync enabled via the nVidia control panel made the mouse behave normal for me, instead of sluggish like a thumb-stick.

Why are there comments all over this page implying that there's any doubt over this coming out on PC?

Where in the article does it say / imply this?
