With the early 2010 launch of Star Trek Online fast approaching and the closed beta underway, publisher Atari has sent forth new screenshots of the sci-fi PC MMO.

The latest from Champions Online developer Cryptic Studios, Star Trek Online does not yet have a specific launch date. An Atari representative told Shacknews that it should launch in February, with various retailers listing it for release on February 2.

  • I've never been interested in an MMO but I am keen on ST:O. Even though there's things I'd like to see in game that the devs have said they're not doing, I think it has real potential based on the richness of the source material alone. My biggest concern is that it will be rushed and not live up to the potential that it has (I guess like Star Wars Galaxies did?).

That, and I hope the exploration aspect of the game is well done. I'm looking forward to boldly going where no man has gone before and I hope this is handled well in game. So long as it feels like a huge persistent universe and not a collection of instances, I'll be quite pleased.

  • Man, I really want to be excited about this - but I can't help but feel like it's going to suck something major.

Cryptic really let me down with Champions Online. This combined with the feeling like they are really rushing this out the door, just doesn't sit well with me. I also haven't heard shit from the developers about how awesome the game will be either. Most of the time when devs are really proud of their work they will go out of their way to toot their own horn, even if the majority of the time it's not warranted.

    I don't know, I'm hoping I'm wrong...
