Modern Warfare 2 Adopts Steamworks on PC
by Nick Breckon, Oct 23, 2009 12:20pm PDTActivision and Valve today announced that they've hammered out an agreement to get Valve's Steamworks suite of tools onto the PC version of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2.
"All PC versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be powered by Steamworks, providing gamers with auto-updating, anti-cheat technology, Steam Achievements, and the recently introduced Steam Cloud," reads the release.
Modern Warfare 2 PC will come loaded with 50 Steam achievements. As with other Steamworks titles, the game will also be accessible from any computer, with Steam Cloud providing persistent settings.
"Steam is the hands down leader in offering a community focused experience on PC and the inclusion of Steamworks has allowed us to deliver the most feature-rich PC version to ever come from Infinity Ward, which at the end of the day will mean the most to our fans," said Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling.

As for the boycott.. lol.. sound familiar? L4D2 boycott anyone? With all due, honesty, we know next to nothing about IW.net other than the fact that it's different... And in the eyes of the PC gamer, philosophy, that seems to be enough to declare it to be the anti christ. The way, I see it, all this does is make sure that you aren't playing in a low ping server full of cheaters.
Maybe we should wait until they actually release details on their new system before going all out and and forming another mob? A little early to be panicking?
Oh noes! No mod support! Yeah, like Call of Duty 4 needed any mods. MILLIONS of people played the regular version of the game and they loved it.
OH noes! Now clans can't play! ...And what's stopping a clan from using the match making system? How do we even know that IW won't add a clan ranking system to IW.net.
Oh noes! No dedicated servers! Uhm, IW.net acts like a dediated server, in the the the hoster doesn't get the advantage..
"But im still not going to buy". Suit yourself. Do you remember how many people were using pirated versions of COD4? How much do you think IW would care about a platform with that level of piracy?
For fucks, sake where is our faith in IW?
