THQ has announced it will publish Ukrainian developer 4A Games' post-apocalyptic shooter Metro 2033, celebrating with a handful of new screenshots and a trailer.

Metro 2033 was first revealed in 2006, then described as a "horror/action/survival FPS" with RPG elements and scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Based on the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky, it tells of survivors living in Moscow's metro system, where stations have become cities with diverse societies including "democracy with market economy, totalitarian sects, military communism, primitive society with proper culture and beliefs." Naturally, the surface swarms with "mutant horrors."

Metro 2033 will be released for PC and Xbox 360 and is now due in "early 2010." Tempting glimpses of the game and a little story follow in the trailer below.

Another post-apocalyptic shooter? But they're so depressing. :( Give me a shooter in a nice forest with bunnies and unicorns and stuff.

It does seems like a promising setting and idea rather than generic post-apocalyptic blah, though.

have you been feeling down but not completely depressed for 2+ years without having a major depressive episode? if yes: congratulations! someone would diagnose you with dysthymia.
