Shack PSA: Assassin's Creed PC $5 on Steam
by Nick Breckon, Oct 20, 2009 7:00pm PDTThe PC version of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed has been marked down to just $5 on Steam as part of a midweek madness sale. The sale will run up to Thursday.
Called the Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut, the PC game features four extra mission types over the console version: archer assassination, rooftop race challenge, merchant stand destruction challenge and escort challenge.
If you skipped the first game but are eying the sequel, now is the time to buy in: Assassin's Creed II (360, PS3) hits stores on November 17. Thanks to Evil Bones for the heads-up.

So there was this massive thunderstorm last night that cut the power to half of my neighborhood and my whole family woke up an hour late for work/school because none of our alarm clocks went off. Well, I had left my computer on before I went to sleep and I realized that the electricity going off would have shut it down. It just so happens that I had removed the backup power cell for my motherboard a week ago (for certain reasons, like using the battery in something else :P) and with no power reserve the motherboard reset itself. Because my motherboard reset itself, the time connected to my IP address was pushed all the way back to last sometime back in 2007. To cut a long story short, I ended up staying at home today and saw this deal around 11:00am, long after it should have been down! I hurriedly opened Steam, clicked the link, saw that it was still $5, and bought it! After downloading the game I changed my date and time to the present, went back to see if the deal was there, and was stunned to see that it had disappeared and as replaced my a discount on ARMA 2! Assassin's Creed is just one of those games that I have never played, so when I checked my bank account later, and saw that exactly 5 dollars had been deducted, it just confirmed that I got hella lucky today.
Well I thought it was funny.
Games here in general are too much money and I don't understand why. 70 euros for a new 360 game is a crapload of money and encouraging used games \ game swapping. 50 or 60 euros (as on Steam) for a new PC game is definitely encouraging piracy here now that I've seen how the economy works. 60 euros is two nice nights out with dinner and drinks.
Its actually puzzling. I'm definitely going to stock up on purchases when I head back to the states for Xmas.

Since the copy protection wont allow me and many others to play.
The ubisoft servers are down, and the game calls back home after each action (killing enemy, picking something up, etc) causing a 5 second "hang" each time you do something.
The only way to fix this is by banning the ubisoft servers using a firewall or host file adjust.
Either way i am totally fed up with this shit, after paying 20 euro for it back then. (game worked several weeks, after which it stopped working for MONTHS, support is nowhere to be found).
Love you too Ubisoft...

Also I just noticed Australia doesn't have the L4D1 + L4D2 bundle, which is weird.

I'm definitely going to get the sequel on the PC... oh wait, not coming out on launch day? Pass.
Lord knows what console gamers saw in this for full price when the PC version has 4 new missions types bringing the total to... what, 6? There's just not enough to do once you have the gist of how it plays under control. It's... boring. Boring is a horrible word, but how else could you describe it? Run, stab, run, stab, take on 2 dozen guards at once (and win, constantly), terrible stealth, run, stab. Run a bit more.
I still recommend this wholeheartedly for $5 or even $10, but I have no idea why ANYONE on either platform would be looking forward to AC2 based on this.
