"Pain Is Back," declares this trailer for Homegrown's frantic shooter sequel Painkiller: Resurrection (PC). Other points? "New & Improved Monsters." "New & Improved Weapons." "New Co-Op Mode." "Dynamic Light Sources." "Destructible Environments."

The game went gold today, and will be at North American retailers on October 27. A downloadble demo should be available "shortly," according to publisher JoWooD.

Today's announcement referred to it as "the latest sequel in the successful Painkiller series."

It is a true sequel, here is what it will contain:

-Unique storyline told using top quality "graphic novel" style cutscenes
-Completely reworked "Painkiller 2.0 engine" with shader effects, weather systems, a superb physics engine, and ultra-fast netcode, including an anticheat system
-The best weapons from all of the Painkiller titles + new, inventive tools of death
-Classic-style FPS levels and enormous, explorable areas provide varied gameplay
      -4-player co-op campaign
-Countless eSports-grade multiplayer modes with numerous new and updated maps

      * Yes some of the mobs are making a come back, as well as weps and locations. *

I have the same question. When it says 'new and improved weapons', it shows the old stake gun? I'm not hugely knowledgeable on PK but... what's different/improved? All seems very vague.

Sequel? Done by a different company? Doesn't that put it closer to 3rd Party Expansion Pack a la Quake 2: Ground Zero?

Original PK, then a quick "Battle Out of Hell" expansion by the same team (both are now part of the PK:Black Edition/Gold), and a mod turned expansion PK: Overdose, by Mindware Studios. The latter have also released a Dreamkiller game this week, not in any way related to PK (besides the same run-and-gun concept, and they did re-use some of the mooks).

"Overdose" wasn't bad gameplay-wise (particularly in light of the fact that it started out as a mod), but the writing and jokes were abysmal.

"Dreamkiller" is pile of steaming feces.

I liked Dreamkiller. Pretty fun, but way too short.

Like i said elsewhere in these comments, the worst of the bunch would be Nitro Family. And Dreamkiller is way better than that "game".

I do consider Will Rock to be a superior game to Dreamkiller when it comes to mid tier SamKiller clones, though.

I really enjoyed Will Rock too. I still pull it out once in awhile for a fast shooter fix.
