Star Wars: The Old Republic Dev Diary Explains the Challenge of Creating Coruscant

17
How do you build a planet without terrain? The BioWare artists working on Star Wars' galactic capital of Coruscant attempt to answer this question in their quest to recreate the worlds of George Lucas for The Old Republic MMO.

If you can't wait to get in there, fly around in your car, and see what happens when you jump off the tallest building, don't forget beta regiistration is still open.

I can understand them doing it but I still found it funny when they showed the guy using the map editor and he was copy/pasting windows on top of each other.

how do you think these things get done? every single window on every single building isn't some kind of magically unique geometry. The entire planet is probably 3 buildings mixed and matched in different variations.

When I used to design on the computer for my "Industrial Design" classes, my dumb, old fashioned teachers would look at me like I was some kind of warlock that mixed magical spells with the help of a keyboard and mouse. I wasn't treated with awe and respect... not that kind of warlock... the kind of warlock that puts curses on people and lives in the hills by himself to the consternation of the simple village-folk. I don't know where I'm going with this, but it was a cool story.
