Halo 3: ODST Sells 2.5 Million in Two Weeks
by Nick Breckon, Oct 08, 2009 2:10pm PDTAny doubts that Bungie's Halo 3: ODST would be a success were quelled with word that the game has sold 2.5 million copies in its first two weeks.
As reported by USA Today, overall sales amount to $125 million in revenue so far.
"That's pretty good for a game that most called an 'expansion pack,'" said Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter.
The original Halo 3 did $170 million in sales on its first day of business, eventually topping $300 million in its first week. But Halo 3 was produced over a span of several years; by comparison, production on ODST only lasted a brief 14 months, representing a much smaller investment.

Does that sound like a full price value game to you? Me either.
And I thought Left 4 Dead was short and hardly worth the cash. This game was a JOKE.

Then theres the bitch that the sequels are just the same game. If you don't like the game, are you REALLY going to pay enough attention to it to SEE the differences? Fuck, ODST brings back the zooming pistol, gets rid of shields entirely, brings back the health meter, now has recoil, has a completely new co-op "horde" mode gametype. I could write a 2 page paper on the differences of each halo and how it affects gameplay, because it affects gameplay a whole lot. But for some reason, this ONE fanchise has to completely change everything to be legitimate? It's an FPS for fucks sake, what are they supposed to do? Hell, they already made a RTS (haven't played it, dont know if it sucks), is that somehow the exact same?
Is it because the good guys don't suddenly change? Oh wait, IT DOES because even the first one had one of the alien races change sides.
Anyone that makes the assertion that there is anything bad about Halo making sequels is a complete idiot and brainless tool. I don't even like halo 2 or 3, but thats because of how different they are from each other and halo 1 so I'm not some Halo fanatic. I was over it until my buddy convinced me to try ODST. But I have a brain, I use it, and I'm not so pathetic to think that anything I don't like sucks, like I'm somehow the great judger or all things. Thats how my 7 year old even grew out of that stupid mentality...

I've been playing FPS for a long time, mainly PC (Counterstrike, Quake, etc) but when I play the xbox from time to time that is the title that allows anything to happen. COD4 is just as good.

Halo had incredible shooter mechanics from the start so even levels like the library couldn't make the game boring. Just throwing grenades in Halo is so fun people are making countless videos of themselves doing it.
I've played nearly every shooter on the PC and when I first played the original Halo coop with a friend on the original xbox I was blown away. The gameplay is so fun, so smooth, so balanced. It is above anything else in that aspect. It was also one of the first shooters where I felt the coop really fit the game.
Also, with Halo 2 the multiplayer was improved so much it was easily at the same level as juggernauts like Counter-Strike and Battlefield. I must have played 4-5000 online matches at least.
The Halo games feel like they're made by Blizzard in how polished and balanced everything is.
And the fact that the Halo games are almost sandbox like in how much freedom they offer and how much they let you do gives nearly endless replay value. Halo 3 introduced a lot of uneccesary invisible walls in the campaign and was in my mind a step in the wrong direction in that aspect.

i missed halo 1 + 2, but halo 3 and odst is a game me and my friends play together most. and some people will hate it, but i have had nothing but good times playing halo.
of course there will now be the calls of "MILKING" and "NOT INNOVATING" but there is something to be celebrated for keeping on point.
