Activision Closes 'Web of Shadows' Dev Shaba

Shaba Studios, the developer responsible for Spider-man: Web of Shadows, was shut down today by owner Activision according to several reports.

Though the doors of the San Francisco-based studio were closed, Kotaku put the number of terminated employees at just 30 out of the 61-strong team. Founded in 1997, Shaba was largely responsible for ports of Tony Hawk games before shipping Web of Shadows in 2008.

Activision also recently cut 30 employees from its wholly-owned 7 Studios, a move it chalked up to "realignment" of its music genre workforce.

My roommates berated me into not playing Web of Shadows because they couldn't stand the voice actor voicing Spiderman.

That is a great reason to not listen to a band (can't stand the singer), but a terrible reason to not play a game. Your roommates are some pansy assed babies.

They had a point though. The first cutscene sounded sooo bad. Spidey is no whiney little bitch but from that it sure sounded like it. After that cutscene though it got noticeably better.

Wait - since when was Peter Parker -not- a "whiney little bitch?" I thought that being proverbially stuck in his late teens / early 20's secured his hormones as such. A side-effect of radiation, or something.

This was spidey, not Petey. Yes we expect Mr Parker to be a bitch but Black Suit Super Spidey needs a gruff edge that wasn't evident in the first cutscene.

Deus Ex was gaming magnum opus and it had some of the worst voice acting in any game ever.

FYI, I think it's a great game. The voice acting gets better the more 'bad' you become. Simply due to the fact that the actor starts doing his best gravelly voice. Which is 18 bazillion times better than his whiny bitch voice.

I agree with this. I played the bad angle and it got better.
