Morning Discussion

by Alice O'Connor, Oct 08, 2009 6:00am PDT

The time is 8:00am CST on Thursday 8 October 2009 CE and this is the latest 'chatty' thread for the Shacknews.com community members, wherein you may discuss whatever crosses your mind. Or not, if you don't want to. That is your decision to make.

Last night I saw Zombieland, a movie about a land with zombies.

  • Hey dudes, I'm becoming an Important Person in Iowa City.

The campus radio station approached me today about starting a web-based broadcast of the reading series I set up last semester for a special section of undergraduate writers on campus. So now we're looking to expand the series to all talented undergraduate writers on campus! A pet project of mine is turning into kind of a big deal.

I do have a question though. I've been emailing the school's literary magazines and the newspapers/publications around town with the following email:

My name is Modica, and since Spring semester, I've been running a reading series for members of the Undergraduate Creative Writing Track, which we hold at Public Space One. It has been a small success, but I'm looking to expand the reading series beyond members of the Writing Track, to include all talented writers at the University of Iowa. I have been approached by KRUI to start a web-based broadcast of the reading series, which would include and necessitate a wider audience of both writers/readers and listeners.

I was curious about the possibility of getting some publicity from the readers of your publication, if that was at all possible. I can provide further details regarding the reading series and the webcast if [so and so] is interested.

Do you think that's too forward or pushy, given that I'm emailing the school paper and some of the actual publications in Iowa City?
