The Washington Post (thanks s e n n) is the latest to take a look at the development of ION Storm's game which has been delayed a few times *cough*. In the article Playing the Waiting Game with Daikatana writer Rob Pegoraro covers the history of the game's development, and also offers quotes from Joel Mathis of GoneGold, Ted Beak of Daikatana Nation and also Eidos. Here's what Eidos had to say

Neither Ion Storm nor Eidos--both having weathered a storm of scathing commentary--is talking to the press anymore about this game. "There just doesn't seem to be any upside in doing previews right now," an Eidos spokesman said in declining to comment. "We've been ambushed right and left, so Eidos wants the game to speak for itself."

  • I wrote a damn good opinion on the Q3A Gone Gold thread on Daikatana...

Daikatana might never go gold. Hell Best Buy thought it did over a month ago and it still hasn't come out!!! I scrolled through the strategy guide at Best Buy and I have to say that I'm already a little disappointed in this game. It has a max of like 100 polys per frame. Unreal has a max of 200 and Q3A's is 2000 polys max, for reference. Dk = big square, rectangle, triangle, blocky environments. This game looks more like Quake than Quake 2. I'm not impressed at all with it. I mean a mountain looks like a slightly slanted wall coming from the ground then divided by one line by an even more slated wall going all the way up to the map cube boundaries of the game so you can't see any father away from where you are. Pathetic if you ask me. DK truly = vaporware if I ever saw a game that matched that description. What makes things worse is that Half-Life and Heretic 2 look a lot better than this pile of crap. Basically what IÂ’m trying to say is that for you to look at those two games and see how they made mountain cliff then go back and see DKÂ’s you'll see the difference. I implore anyone who is thinking about buying this game to go to their local game store and take a look at the strategy guide. It really does look like shit and that ought to be the last word on this subject. I truly hope no one posts a comment when it does go gold. It would signify thatÂ’s noneÂ’s interested in their game anymore and that ought to freak the Ion Storm people out really good. :) However, IÂ’d imagine the Pentium 100mhz people will really enjoy the frame rates of this game on their PC. :)
