Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Demo Goes Public Today, Twitter Functionality Tweaked

With the Uncharted 2's October 13 release date drawing ever closer, developer Naughty Dog and publisher Sony are today opening the game's multiplayer demo--previously only accessible to pre-ordering customers--to all PlayStation 3 owners in North America.

Slated to be available via PlayStation Store at 11AM PST / 1PM CST / 2PM EST, the 1.3 GB download allows players to sample four maps, four competitive modes and two co-op modes from the PlayStation 3 exclusive's multiplayer component.

In addition, Naughty Dog revealed that the game's built-in Twitter functionality will be tweaked upon release so as to not spam the social networking service with frequent updates regarding single-player campaign progress.

The decision to rework the "updates on chapter completion" option came after some reviewers (and their Twitter followers) experienced a flood of automated tweets as they blazed through Uncharted 2's twenty-plus chapters.

"The [updates on chapter completion] option will still exist in the menus when the game ships on 10/13, but if activated, it will do nothing," Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells explained. "After the game has shipped, we'll release a patch to reactivate the feature, but with a limit on the frequency of updates."

'Twitter Functionality Suspended' to 'Twitter Functionality Tweaked' to better reflect that it's a slight reworking of the way the game handles Twitter, not a complete removal of the feature.
