So, excatly what is this Aion game? It looks like a mix of Guild Wars and World of Warcraft.

it always looked like one of those freetoplay asian mmo's, meaning overdone acrobatics/weapons/etc.

I'm seriously not sold on this game yet. The graphics look average minus the characters, the game play sounds mediocre at best. Anybody have an honest opinion about this game who has played it so far? So many games coming out and so little time to invest in a crap fest.

The characters are extremely detailed and some of the world textures could be a little nicer for sure, but a lot of the time when you're running around in the environments they're very engaging. Lots of nice effects like "god rays" and that kind of stuff. It's a very pretty game if you have a PC that's older than 1992.

The game play is standard MMO gameplay. You select a target, use a skill which may or may not open up a skill chain, etc. It doesn't offer anything crazy revolutionary, that's true, but if you want a nice looking fun MMO I think it's fun.

The crafting system is better than other systems I've had in MMOs. LOTRO was my last MMO and it had a dreadfully boring system. In Aion you at least have a chance to fail crafting something so there is an element of risk there.

If you're looking for the next great MMO that will revolutionize the whole system I can't say that this is it, though I really can't say it's not. Apparently the joy of it is in the later levels and is only if you really like PvP. From what the Korean/Chinese/Japanese release players say the PvP is supposed to be great. I never had a chance to try it though as you need to be level 25 and up.

Me personally I really enjoy the game. I wanted a nice MMO that would replace LOTRO, which has become a stupid gear grind fest, and Aion had what I wanted: the standard RPG style gameplay, beautiful graphics, great animations, great sound, beautiful environments. So far I'm enjoying it.

Feels very refreshing. The world is very immersive, environments look great, flying is pretty fun. It's a lot like WoW so far, but the quests feel more engaging and have better stories. Haven't tried PVP yet but it's supposed to be pretty good.

I'm really enjoying it so far. Very addicted at this point. If you are a fan of MMO's I think it deserves to be tried.

It's an MMO with the end game focus being pvp.

Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdwLkaH-ebU and there are more (No. 1-6) and if you like the group vs group combat you may want to check it out.

It's a diversion until the next decent MMO that isn't WoW.

You put it perfectly. I'm hoping Bioware will deliver with Old Republic, but I'm a bit worried about how the PvP will pan out in that game. To my knowledge, Bioware has little experience putting Player versus Player combat together. The PvE on the other hand, should be epic.

This is "the next decent MMO that isn't WoW."

There's WoW and the rest are diversions from WoW.

A game that's much MUCH better than World of Warcraft in an exhausting and long list of ways.

It's just too bad that that long list is entirely subjective, graphics aside, huh? People playing WoW won't jump ship for this game. It'll probably achieve some success, but WoW will remain the industry standard.

WoW is subjective you fool. These days the value of WoW is mostly in the player pool, not that it's somehow more fun to play.

There's a need for something other than WoW, but it can't just be decent. It's gotta be better.

I find it interesting that people are constantly on the look-out for that next big thing that isnt wow. It's not them looking for a new game to play, it's them specifically looking for something that 'isnt wow.'

This is what wow has done to the gaming industry - and i personally find it extremely interesting - how a large portion of players NEED to have an ongoing MMO. There's no question about whether or not they're paying a monthly fee to play a game, they are, and it's just a case of which. While there isnt a wow replacement, there's wow. Something like Aion comes along, drives up some hype, a big chunk of players hope its the wowtichrist, realise it isnt, a month later they're back in wow with their eyes on the next potential title (aka knights of the old republic or similar).

It's like they cant just stop playing a mmo - it leaves too big a hole. It has to be a replacement for wow, or wow.

In addition to this there's those in denial - usually in the early days of a new mmo release, going on about how awesome it is, how good it looks - who then a month later - quietly - also usually return to wow, or something else.

There's certainly a bigass pile of money to be made to whomever can actually surpass wow, but at this point in time, i suspect the only one who is going to pull it off is blizzard's next gen mmo.

Played WoW for 4 years and I jumped ship to Aion. I needed something different and something that was good, and Aion is providing exactly that.

I'm quite happy with my purchase.
