Q3 MissionPack Info

It looks like some details on the upcoming Quake3 mission pack have been leaked a bit early. There is even a new screenshot of the pack showing a model carrying a CTF flag and another shot over at PQ (Who got confirmation from id Software on the details) Here are the known details for you guys to mull over: (7:50pm update: There is also a .plan update from ToddH at id)

New Game modes: · Harvester: Principle is to collect balls of color left by killed enemies and totouch enemy flag to validate what you collected. The winning team is the one that collected the most. · Obelisk: each team has an obelisk in its base with its proper energy. When an enemy shoots the obelisk, it loses energy and when it reaches 0, the other team wins the match. The energy of the obelisk regenerates slowly when not attacked. 12 new maps (8 teamplay/ctf, 4 duel maps). New player models 3 new weapons (nailgun , proximity mines , chaingun) Support for up to 5 teams which have their own design and logo. New bonuses/runes - Kamikaze: when used it will kill you but do a 100/100 to every body in the shock wave. - a damage doubler (maybe) - new haste-like runes (maybe)
Also from PQ: "The user interface and menu system are being redesigned to compliment the team play focus and facilitate team awareness and communication." They are shooting for a release date of June of this year. There is also one more shot over at Quake3World.com A quick note: The Shack Q3 Clan Arena server is here now: 209.39.192.7:27960. I'm the guy running around with a 5 ping in the late evenings. :)

  • Here is a funny letter I wrote to the RA3 mailing list. I doubt it'll see the official light of day on the list but I think it's a nice rant and basically shows my feelings for what is happening in the community. It's in reply to Brandon Reinhart bitching about how this mailing list is not helpful to him or the RA:UT game and how he shouldn't waste his bandwith here. As follows:

    Yes waste your fucking bandwith here! We're not "beneficial" because you don't pay any attention to us or care for our input. You're the guy making the fucking mod we shouldn't be begging for you to add features or give us something to help you with, you're doing this for US and to make your game more appealing, god damn it!

    On another topic: GOD DAMN IT! I'm a bit perturbed at what a piece of shit company id has become of late wtf is this mod pack thing they're charging 30 dollars for?!? It's a fucking ripoff of the mod community, twelve shitty maps and two new models. I don't know where to turn anymore, UT sucks, Q3 sucks, HL is too realistic, we NEED RA3 or someone to remake Quake1 with purdy graphics and than everyone will be happy! FUCK!

    both suck. One is a company bending over backwards to help the customers and mod community like Brandon here with his RA:UT mod for a game I don't like and the other is a company I used to idolize but is now saying FUCK YOU to there customers and isn't giving us shit for help, doesn't care about there buggy for shit engine or anything else for that matter. It's just annoying cuz i used to like playing these video games.

    Anyway I found it sorta' humorous. I wrote it at 2:30am after having a long IRC chat with guys I've known since the Quake 1 days and they were all pissed off about this bullshit about as much as I was. Oh well

  • people only seem to be satisfied by good games with little hype. we are the underdog fans nowadays! obviously 3drealms knows this, as they're trying to suppress duke 4 hype as much as possible. id didn't even need to do anything, but the fact that they were id kinda built up the hype machine regardless. not to mention the fact that UT was quietly making an emergence.

    you know, maybe id realizes that this is no "one-must-die" war. they do not need to compete with epic. whether it's because "id fanboys are sucking their cock", or because they actually make a pretty solid game, maybe they don't feel they have to try and crush epic into the ground. maybe they just do what they do, make the game they want to make, do the plans they want to do. they have confidence in themselves, obviously, because they're charging for their mission pack.

    also, if i were from id i wouldn't read here anyway..the majority of people are dumbasses, whether one way or another. you get the "id haters" who, while they may have valid reasons for disliking id now, will stoop to any level to bash id, even if it is a small tidbit of information about the mission pack, which could be 95% of what's in the MP, or maybe only 10%. then there's the id lovers, who go to great lengths to defend id because 1) they happen to like quake 3, and 2) those id haters are some egotistical bastards :P unfortunately, the id lovers usually end up sounding like idiots and becoming fodder for the others. and then there's the 5% of people who either say "wah there's room for both!", or "they both suck", or "this conversation sucks, here, let me decode this entire conversation"..hey..that's me!

    well i had more but i'm dumb being a dumbass. also, don't label me as an epic/id fanboy..i never said i was a fan of either :P
