Silent Hill Filmmakers Sign Up for Sequel
Scribe Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida are both signed on the sequel project, which will begin shooting sometime next year.
The original film was largely panned by critics, but made over $97 million in worldwide box office sales on a production budget of $50 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

Great news - the first, while overall I felt was quite a letdown, still managed to pull off quite a few aspects from the source material effectively. Also, the skin rip scene alone made the movie worth watching.

The first one was decent. They did a great job on the atmosphere and the creatures which were faithful to the games. I wanted to see more. It was a little gruesome and gory at times but hey...it's Silent Hill. There's plenty of room for a sequel so bring it on.
Now that I think about it, what happened to the suspense, horror, adventure games like SH2? The last SH kinda fizzled and burned out. I don't even remember when it came out. -

Personally, I think it's currently the best video game movie ever made. It's not a perfect film by any means, but it gets the job done.
As for the critics panning it - I've never paid attention to what the critics say about a video game movie because more often than not, they're not the target audience and have little to no experience with the source material.
