Weekend Discussion

by Chris Faylor, Sep 12, 2009 12:30pm PDT

Jeez, there sure are a lot of games coming out next week. It's only mid-September!

I don't even want to think about the flood that October and November will bring. Instead, I think I'll go play a bit of DiRT 2 and see how that turned out. Sure looks pretty.

  • incoming HoN rant

I never played DoTA, and after a weekend of play, I like the premise behind HoN, but honestly it seems like this game has serious playability issues. I'm fighting non stop with the field of view: I lose track of my hero too easily in the mix, and I hate having to click on myself to heal or use an ability.

The shops are a mess to decipher: there's no clear path, and sometimes I would have items automatically merge together that I needed for an entirely different recipe. Is there a way to reverse this?

I would like to see the recipes laid out in a more logical manner, as a skill tree or something instead. The game still feels very mod-ish, the gui still needs a lot of work, I hate that pop-up menu offering to reconnect you to a conceded battle, and the Join Channel button doesn't even work. I know it's a beta, but unless they get all this in shape, I don't see the game worth the 30 dollars unless you're a DoTA enthusiast.
