LucasArts Planning Many More Retro Remakes, Re-releasing Jedi Knight Next Week

With LucasArts' recent remake of Monkey Island having "surpassed all of our expectations," studio president Darrell Rodriguez has now confirmed that "we plan to do much more of this, both on Steam and iPhone and other platforms in the future."

The revelation came during a GameTrailers TV interview, which also saw the LucasArts president speak on reissuing the Jedi Knight games and the potential of new entries in classic franchises, such as Grim Fandango and Indiana Jones.

"Jedi Knight series is coming next week as well," Rodriguez said of the old Star Wars-based PC shooter/saber-swinging franchise. Just before the Monkey Island remake hit, LucasArts began re-releasing vintage titles for use on modern systems.

As for new entries in beloved franchises like Grim Fandango or Indiana Jones, Rodriguez noted that the company has "absolutely" thought of such things.

"One of the great opportunities working here is to be able to meet some of the legends--to meet Tim Schafer (Full Throttle, Grim Fandango), to meet Larry Holland (X-Wing, TIE Fighter), to meet [Dave] Grossman (Day of the Tentacle) or Ron Gilbert (The Secret of Monkey Island)," he teased. "Wouldn't it be great to work with them on new things?"

"We're really excited about getting back to the heritage and the halcyon days of LucasArts," Rodriguez added. "When people couldn't wait for a LucasArts title to come out--games based on story and on character."
