My American adventure is drawing to a close and I must say I'm going to miss you, young man. You're the progeny I shall never understand but you're alright in my book. We should see more of each other.

Having received a dose of the Virginia suburb experience, I would rather like to take similar jaunts to other parts of your mahoosive and diverse land. Downtown Salt Lake City, a tiny apartment in San Francisco, a bungalow in a one-stoplight Minnesota town, out in the New Mexico sticks... not chasing sights and attractions but simply enjoying a snifter of life. • Let's simplify the problem for a moment. Let's pretend that there are ONLY four-sided pieces (50 of them) and they all connect (so for the sake of this simplified version, it's a sphere kinda)

Once you have a piece, the chance that the next piece you get is a match is 4/49 right? Four sides, and 49 pieces possible. Okay now let's say that wasn't a match. What is the chance of the next piece being a match? The thing you might want to say is 8/48, because there are now 8 sides and 48 possible pieces. But this isn't right becuase what if the two pieces you have are positioned horizontally from each other with one piece in the middle? In that case they each share a connection with one piece so it would be (in that specific case) 7/48. So you'd need to calculate the chance of that situation being the case and take it in to account.

And then what about when you draw the fourth piece? Now you have three pieces that could be associated in all sorts of different ways and very quickly your permutations are getting pretty fucking big.
