About to leave the "office" and pick up my Gretsch guitar. Will be my first Rock Band guitar since the original, which left a bad taste in my mouth. Hopefully this thing is solid. For $100, it'd better be.

I picked up the Beatles mono box set today so I gotta hold off on the rock band guitars. Hopefully I can pick them up before they sell out.

It was funny; I was in my regular Gamestop and the guy behind the register told me I was the only one to pre-order one of the guitars. I'm thinking initially this is not going to be a big selling game, but I think towards Christmas it'll rise up the NPD.

I picked up a Gretsch guitar, too.

Best build quality of a plastic guitar I've seen yet.

I'm not really a fan of the music, but I'll probably pick this one up.

On another note, I was trying to explain these kind of games to an older friend of mine. He just doesn't get it.

        Pretty much.

But seriously. Not a bum Beatles song in the lineup, the new stereo mix is loud and in your face which make eliminates that fuzzy sound around "All You Need Is Love," and "I am the Walrus."

"Sgt Peppers -> With A Little Help," is amazing to play.

It's pretty good, and I don't even like the Beatles.

Now, if only they'd do one for Pink Floyd, I could die a happy man.

I played a bit at BestBuy last weekend. The songs are actually much more complex than I assumed. I may pick up the guitar tracks if it's sold alone later.

      • reply
        September 9, 2009 6:23 PM

The songs are a bit easier than most Rock Band upper-impossible tier, but I like being able to play hard and expert like they are medium Guitar Hero tracks.

I'm a really casual player of RB/GH and the over charting on the GH series has porbably killed me from the franchise for life.

I will, and I'll most likely be stupid Ringo. I like the drums and vocals the most, Ive never really liked the guitar or bass playing. She's like halfway through the fucking game already, so I think I'm safe for next week's adventure "Iron Man Punches The Green Goblin's Dick Off".

after all these releases of rock band/guitar heros what is currently the best guitar out there?

i have no experience but still like the guitar hero 2 guitar. i like the raised buttons. i'm sure there's probably better, though. i hate the flat buttons of the original rock band.

      • reply
        September 9, 2009 7:12 PM

If you like that type, the GH3 controller is probably your best bet. The RB2 is the best, though.

          September 9, 2009 7:16 PM

does the rb2 have the flat buttons you can't feel?

          • reply
            September 9, 2009 7:24 PM

Yep, although it does have tiny bumps on some frets to help you orient your hand. If you want raised frets, the new GH5 guitar is supposedly very good. Or you can get a GH3 Les Paul, although you may suffer from intermittent connection problems due to the removable neck. (Some people add paper or cardboard shims inside the neck receiver to tighten it up; otherwise, you can hardwire the fret buttons to the circuit board inside the body.)

Sounds like I should stick to my classic GH2 guitar :D

        • reply
          September 9, 2009 8:24 PM

I disagree, the best raised button controller is still the GH2 controller, granted it's wired and very difficult to buy, but it's still the best. The GH3 / GH:WT controllers just seem slightly off for some reason, but if wireless and raised buttons are your requirements then obviously it's a no brainer.

I have recently purchased a RB guitar and it's slowly becoming my favourite. At first I did not like how the buttons moved in to the neck, and it's harder to slide from one note to another, but it just feels really robust. I know that if I miss a note then it's my fault, whereas with my GH3 guitar there are times where I second guess the guitar. :|

What do you play on in regular RB2? My wife wavers between Hard/Expert and she did about the same during our run. I stayed pure Expert and was never in any fear of failing out.

        • reply
          September 9, 2009 9:26 PM

expert only. i am sure i won't fail any of the songs, and actually that's fine. i know i'll love playing most of them, even if they're easy.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'm glad I only rented it. As it stands, I probably won't buy this one.

Don't get me wrong, the presentation is fantastic. I love the music and everything, but I just don't feel as though I can see myself picking it up and playing it as I do normal RB. I guess there's a reason why I haven't been a fan of "band specific" RB/GH games, there's only so much I can take before I start to feel bored.

      Maybe I'm just broken.
