Cities XL US Demo Released

4
The 1GB US demo of Monte Cristo's urban building and management sim Cities XL is now available over on FileShack, chasing last week's Europe-only demo release.

Expiring on October 7, the demo contains a slice of the subscription-based online 'Planet' mode, with only three locations on which to build a city and a population cap.

Cities XL will hit Europe on October 8 then America on October 9, available through Monte Cristo's website and assorted digital download platforms.

I tried out the demo and I was really disappointed. I'm a big fan of city building games, having played SimCity 3 and 4 for countless hours. It just isn't that fun. The whole idea of having a world, with cities populating is a good one, but the city building itself is just not...right. Maybe its just me. What did you guys think?

I played the beta for a while and while I do like the genre and stuff I just couldn't get into this. Cities XL feels more complex than it should be. There's a lot of depth but trying to find it and naturally achieving it is completely different and I think that's what turned me away.

        Yep, my thoughts exactly.

yup same here... i played the beta for a few weeks, early on it was "just ok". I played from the first beta and that was insanely easy. Of course all the hardcore players complained and they completely fucked over the core gameplay.

Not to mention the game is just too buggy for release... it feels halfway finished

I came to more or less the same conclusion. This game just makes me want to reinstall SC4.

The thing is, unlike Sim City (or most other similar games) this one isn't objective-based at all. Once you have unlocked all of the buildings & roads & such (which goes quite fast) it's more of a sandbox game that calls to your creativity.

Huge Simcity fan, played the beta for a week, and never again. Just not that fun of a game.
