The Secret World Gets New Trailer, Beta Signups
by Chris Faylor, Sep 03, 2009 9:51am PDTLast time, it was a fiery supernatural break-in. Now, the second teaser for The Secret World is out, showing that even playgrounds aren't safe in the modern-day MMO.
Developed by Funcom (Age of Conan), The Secret World is billed as having "no classes or levels, thus giving the player complete freedom of choice when creating and developing his or her alter-ego." Still no word as to when the PC and Xbox 360 title will launch, but beta signups are now open through a secret society placement test.

I've been waiting for a worthwhile MMO ever since I was done with Neocron.. In around 2003.
Planetside filled a small corner of the hole - StarWars Galaxies kept me from going over the edge.. Since Darkfall disappointed me so cruelly though, I can feel the void yawning once more ;-;
Times like this, I wish I were religious - so I could pray.
Pretty cool sign-up, much more original then the boring empty page where you fill in your e-mail!

Levelless and classless sounds all sexy, but as Champions Online has shown it's not so easy to actually implement such a system (the classless part).

I had to manually update Flash using Firefox, not using the Adobe downloaded extension.

And yet at the same time... if it does too well then will there ever be another Longest Journey with a new MMO to support? And if it fails, will the developers even be 'able' to afford to continue the series?
Gah! Still, TLG aside, I love the premise of this MMO. Hopefully it'll live up to its amazing ideas, and if nothing else, it should provide an excellent online-world to explore for a month or two.
