Telltale's announced that the second chapter of Tales of Monkey Island, The Siege of Spinner Cay, is coming to WiiWare this Monday.

  • I just finished the first part of this (not the second one in the article)
The graphics are very nice and it just looks really good, in a few sections (on the pier near the courthouse) it almost looks hand drawn despite being in full 3D - at least when you're not moving.

It wasn't an absoloute laff riot but I certainly laughed several times and enjoyed it, I got about 3.5 to 4 hours of entertainment out of it, which is pretty good and despite getting stuck a couple of times, I didn't have to google any solutions which is good, it was just the right difficulty for someone who doesn't want to get frustrated and quit but not too simple either.

The voice acting was overall fairly good (except Le Chuck in the intro) and there was some Monkey Island charm to it thanks to the music, I'm a bit stubborn though and I miss goatee toting, jacket wearing guybrush from MI 2, however for the sake of character animation and expression, the lanky version might be easier to emote.

Overall a very good experience and I'm surprised it's like 34$ US for the entire set, that's insane, even if the sequels are a bit shorter, I would say you'll get at least 10 hours entertainment for 34$ - up to 15 or 20 possibly, quite a nice deal.

If I have any complaints at all, it isn't too nice with dual monitors, the inventory thing being on the right is tricky to press without clicking on monitor number 2 and effectively alt tabbing the game (Win7) and I think the inventory should be able to be brought up another way.
Could do with a tutorial on how to run, I didn't know about the right mouse until 20 minutes in.
Infact, I plain old miss goddmned point and click and he just walks there, the mouse movement control is a little frustratingly designed (over sensitive?) and it can be easier with the keyboard occassionally - however considering the rest of the game, it's really not that big a deal.

Big thanks to the person who hooked me up with a gifting of episode 1 and 2, despite me getting it free or not I think it's probably worth checking out.

FWIW: My other post complaining about it is just frustration at the art direction of MI3,MI4 and this (lanky Guybrush bugs me) and the fact you have to control where he moves and goes - I do miss the classic point where you want, he simply goes there - however this one is pretty well designed, there's almost always an item you can double click on, per screen and he'll at least run to that automatically.
I give it an 87.314295714 on the abrasion scale.
