Aion's Open Beta, Early Access Program Dated
by Chris Faylor, Aug 27, 2009 11:05am PDTAs NCsoft prepares to launch Aion in North America on September 22 and Europe come September 25, the company has detailed the means by which players can get an early playable glimpse of the PC MMORPG and its persistent fantasy world of Atreia.
An open beta will run from September 6 though 13, during which players will be unable to progress past level 30. This will allow "players to focus on getting to the same level so they can explore the lands of Atreia together," explained NCsoft.
Additionally, those that pre-order the game from participating retailers will be able to "Pre-Select" their character name and server on September 18, with pre-ordering folk also getting early access to the fresh servers, and thus a headstart, on September 20.

WoW does not have such a strong emphasis on open-world RvR conflict. For that matter, does it even HAVE open-world PvP? I heard they took that out awhile ago. I haven't touched the game since I first played the trial so many years ago (it felt like a retread of everything I experienced in EQ2, only with cartoonier visuals).
It does share a lot of similarities in terms of the questing and such, but the combat, RvR battles, and general focus on PvP(vE), in addition to the focus on character customization (huge departure coming from WoW and Lineage 2), really help it stand out in the crowded MMO market. This is in addition to just how obscenely polished the whole thing is.
It's its own game, really. If people can't see past the similarities to understand that, well... we're better off without them, anyways. :p
