Blizzard: Don't Expect Diablo 3 in 2010

Much to the chagrin of those who were expecting Diablo III to arrive next year, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has confirmed that just-revealed World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm and StarCraft II are the two titles the company expects to hit in 2010.

Morhaime made the revelation while talking with BlizzCon Live hosts Geoff Keighley and Kat Hunter, with more details on Blizzard's projects expected as BlizzCon continues.

I Imagine the diablo 3 push back has nothing to do with star craft and more with milking out the new WoW expansion. Which as a game has more similarities with Diablo 3 then Star Craft. My opinion has always been the best chance at a wow killer would be D3. It takes alot of teh stuff i liked about wow and gets rid of a lot of the stuff I didn't like about wow.

And what the heck the world is ending in 2012 anyways pushing back till then they wont make much money and what they do make wont matter no one will be left to spend it.

and next year theyll say that diablo 3 is split into 5 games for each character, and that those will be delayed by a WoW expansion allowing you to gain 3 more levels and put stickers on your armor.

Maybe they will surprise everyone and release it in 2009. As they said don't expect Diablo 3 in 2010 doesn't necessarily mean 2011. It certainly has looked finished for a long time.

They will put off releasing this game till they get a feel for how much extra money they can milk out of people in the star craft 2 market place. Then see how they can apply it to diablo 3 market place. So glad activision got in the mix.. Maybe they have to wait till Activision comes up with new 200$ controllers shaped like different weapons and combat is based of swinging and hitting buttons to the rhythm of the back round music.

Well Not that blizzard will miss my money but i have no interest in any blizzard game till diablo 3. So it may be till 2011 till they see any more of my money.

Of Course Not. Why Release a title when they can milk the money out of you FIRST in WOW and Starcraft. It has NOTHING to do with the game being finished. it has everything to do with making as much profit from one title before taking that money away with another. Believe me, save producing the discs the title is ready to go.

Okay ... I'm not surprised by this, except Blizzard went out of their way to say that Diablo III would ship in 2010 and not be affected by StarCraft II's delay (due to some nebulous issue with Battle.net). Don't believe me?

I know it's been said a thousand times before, but GOD DAMN Blizzard is slow.

I mean, I really do appreciate that they put a lot of effort and polish and creativity (visual, at least) into their products, bur for God's sake... They haven't put out anything other than Warcraft THIS ENTIRE DECADE, and the decade will be over by the time D3 hits.

It may be worth the wait, but it's still slooooooooooooow by any rational standard for a company with the absolutely massive level of resources they have available.

I know, I know, it's just bitching. Still...

It would be dumb on Blizzard's part to release both SC2 and Diablo3 in the same year, they'd eat at each other's sales numbers.

On top of that, you have Cataclysm and WoW still pushing strong.

I mean i was *hoping* we'd see it xmas 2010 (even though i knew it wouldnt happen) but this makes me sad.

I wish blizzard would only announce games when theyre a year (2 max), away.

This Blizzcon is turning into such a downer for me. A WoW expansion that for some reason just doesnt get me excited (at all) and Diablo3 seemingly further away than ever.
