I would go with sf4 all the way but you need a shit load of dedication if you want to win a couple of matches (pretending you didnt play much fighting games recently)

SF has the longevity that just about every other fighter lacks. But it also pretty much requires a joystick or pad with 6 face buttons, IMO.

SFIV all the way. Not even a comparison.

Depends what you're looking for, and personal taste of 2-D vs 3-D gameplay.

SF4 is definitely for more mainstream tastes, and has a bigger player base. Tekken is more technical, and an acquired taste. It seems generally less popular in USA than Japan, small-ish player base.

You should also consider BlazBlue, IMO. Not trying to start any wars here, but I personally enjoy it much more than SF4 as my 2-D game of choice. I still play Soul Calibur as my 3-D series of choice.

Both are awesome games, it's a matter of taste. If you are really clueless about what you would enjoy you might want to consider something like Soul Caliber 4 instead (easier to learn.)

Although Soul Caliber has beautiful animations and tons of cool moves, I've always found it to be a bit too much of a button-mashing fest without much real skill involved.

I played the Tekken games up to Tekken Tag Tournament on the PS2. I liked them as games, but their style is a bit weird. Just going by the videos, I think SF4 looks more appealing to me.

I guess I'll end up giving SF4 a go first then.

          Soul Calibur... Button Mashing...?

          Does... not... compute...!
