I have officially decided that RICH musicians suck shit. I could understand them bitching if they were scraping enough money together from royalties to barely pay their rent or house payment (like the rest of us), but they're rich bastards. Fuck 'em, I'm gonna download as much shit as I can.

The labels are opposed for lame reasons. You can't maximize profit if you can't maximize ass rapage, and the longer they hold on to the old marketing/distribution model the fewer days they've got before the artists&fans do their own marketing and allow some new e-com infrastructure to take care of distribution. No more of that 80% for the good old label boys, 20% for the artists (whatever the numbers are)

I wonder how long before DVD's replace CD's as the preferred physical media. Maybe people would be more inclined to buy the albumn if instead of getting a few tracks of wav audio, you got that, plus music video(s), concert videos, synched "screensaver" esque demos, behind the scenes, interviews, bla bla bla.

hey since some of youmentioned you like country music and we're talking about catchy songs:

i was at this place where peoplelistened to country music and they kept playing "before i'm over you" by loretta lynn. they played it so much that it's stuck in myhead and i want a copy of it. i found it atan mp3 site but the server guy wanted $10 to get access. of course i said no (wtf doesn;t that just go against the whole mp3 morals...skewed as they may be)

do any of the country listeners here have that song and be interested in trading for it?

I guess I'm the only one out there that actually started buying CDs *AFTER* I got into collecting mp3 files. I'm just not the kind of person that will pay $15+ for something that is going to suck ass. What you hear on the radio is a small fraction of what is out there in terms of music, and MTV / VH1 insist on playing no music whatsoever, ironic enough considering their channel acronyms (and the music they do play consists of a steady rotation of the same shit dozen songs). How else are people supposed to get a feeling for the music thats out there if nobody plays it on the airwaves? Although strangely enough, it seems like most of the artists bitching are the selected few that actually are played... I dunno, all this bitching about mp3 files just seems kind of stupid and pointless anyway.

communism is based on socialism. when you refer to napster though, it'd probably be closer to socialism than communism.

personally, i just listen to music cause i like it. don't care about the lyrics, don't care about whether the lead guitarist is playing power chords or wanking, don't care if the drummer is banging like crazy or if he's keeping a single steady beat. if the music gets me movin', i'll listen.

Look guys, whether a band is "commercially oriented" or not has absolutely NOTHING to do with the quality and value of their music. Mozart, Bach, Handel.. all of the great composers were "commercially oriented".

I'm one of those people who doesn't give much of a shit about music one way or the other.

I've memorized zero lyrics because my brain refuses to waste space and I'm not one of those "regurgitate the words to be cool" types. Mumbling works fine.

Nirvana was the last band I remember... everything else is a blurred jumble of pleasing and not so pleasing background noise.
