Of course this engine is probably several times less efficient, and it's not like it must waste CPU time figuring out the required assets to such degree. There's also a lot more granularity, with power of two texture size fetching that will most likely result in unneeded data a lot of the time, but surely you can agree even if this engine is 100 times less efficient than perfect the requirements are not absurd for the "most unique texturing you can get at this resolution", and that's with current hardware. Think of the future, how much RAM we will have to fuck with and no longer be proportionally consumed by the ever-increasing visual fidelity.
