Valve Announces 'Classless' Team Fortress 2 Update
by Nick Breckon, Aug 11, 2009 2:54pm PDTIn lieu of its normal classy demeanor, Valve today announced that Team Fortress 2 is getting its first ever "classless" update.
As with past updates, the content will be revealed over a number of days. The initial blast included the revelation that eighteen new hats--including a cowboy hat for the Engineer and a Russian ushanka for the Heavy--will be added to the title, in addition to a new community map.
The community map, Arena Offblast, is described as a "fast-paced, high-altitude community map set in a top secret missile silo wedged into the top of a hollowed-out mountain."
Several hilarious hidden pages on the teaser site also hint at unannounced features. Any guesses, readers?
No release date for the update was announced. Thanks to Gummy Joe for the tip.

Hooray for more hats I'll never get! Thanks Valve, I always wanted pictures of TF2 characters with hats.
I heard an ancient legend of TF2 hats once, if you travel to Mt. Dontexist and back you can get one! But I've only seen a few in existence and suspect that favours for Walker involving a horse are required instead.
One can only hope that one day when the trading system is implemented for items that nobody will ever fucking trade that someone out there who travelled to the mountain and back twice will start selling his hats for a nice profit.
Yes.... beware TF2 players! The time of the hat-mining is soon upon us!
But oh well, in the mean time enjoy scrolling through 10 flareguns in order to equip the shotgun, or delete them, because you will never trade those flareguns for anything anyway.
And then be greeted by an annoying popup message 10 minutes later stating your new-found flaregun, that you will have to spend 2 clicks on deleting because Valve is just not sure whether you really want to delete that item or not. Are you? Are you really sure? Will the world not end if you delete it? Are you absolutely positive with irrefutable evidence that you will not want this item for another 10 minutes? OK! OK.... we'll believe you... this one time, but next time we're just going to make sure again.
It's for your own good, trust us.

Also, enable the enablement of respawning on Arena maps, so that you can have a glorious but short fight over the single middle cap point, if you so wish. Those beautiful maps are going to waste otherwise.
Do it.

And they need to implement item trading so I can empty my burdened inventory into my second copy of TF2. I bought another copy on a different account so I can loan it to friends...
