Rumor: Next World of Warcraft Expansion to Add Worgen, Goblin Races
by Nick Breckon, Aug 10, 2009 12:50pm PDTSeveral sources "close to the situation" have told WoW.com that the next World of Warcraft expansion will diversify the game's population with two new playable races.
The expansion--rumored to be dubbed "Cataclysm"--will add the Goblin race to the Horde side, with the Alliance gaining the werewolf-like Worgen race, according to the report.

Left, the diminutive Goblins. Right, the beastly Worgen.Blizzard has yet to announce a scrap of information related to the next World of Warcraft expansion. Any official word is likely to come at the company's BlizzCon convention, set to begin on August 21.
As a former Horde player, the prospect of facing an army of players affiliated with the Son of Arugal--that elite level 20 backstabbing son of a bitch--is certainly intimidating.

Recently Blizzard removed the bar from making both factions characters on PvP servers (Meaning you can make both horde and alliance characters on the same pvp server, with the same account) So going in that direction, (especially considering TBC allowed pallys/shaman on both factions) why not
Let both new races be playable for each faction?
Think of it, not like the goblins/worgen wanna pick sides, they just want in the fray. Makes sense to me anyways.

I was, and will always love Warcraft's lore, and the novels. But there was always speculation that Deathwing hauled ass to Undermine (as he did have goblins weld the adamantium to his body) after the disastrous fight with the Guardian Aspects.
Granted, I discussed this with my brother when we both still played after Wrath came out, as to what the next expansion might be. So this idea is hardly new.

Goblins: The Steamwheedle Cartel is just one of several goblin cartels so its possible that another cartel has joined forces with the Horde. Goblins like money and someone in the Horde handed over the cash.
Worgen: There are two types of worgen, the ones from another dimension and those that are curse humans (aka werewolves). Pyrewood Village in Silverpine Forest is an example of the wereworgen. Pyrewood is friendly to Alliance during the day so one theory holds that the villagers figured out a way to keep control of themselves at the cost of being permanantly in their worgen state. Knowing Blizzard they could pull something out of their ass like they did with the Dranei......The worgen aren't evil, they're just corrupted!
Personally I think the Halloween masks were just that and not an indication of new races. I am betting on a new mail/plate healer class, like a Death Knight but based around using "The Light."

Goblin's can't be horde. Aren't they neutral? Does that mean the Goblin towns are going to become Horde towns? I guess that could actually be really cool. And Goblins make a great counter to gnomes...(but pet rocks would make a great counter to Gnomes.)
The Worgren on the Alliance side is much cooler. Before the last race expansion I was saying how the Alliance needed a good 'beast' race to counter the Tauren. This could do it.
Of course, I still prefer the ChiKong http://realm.ofthehawke.com/rpg/imitation/wow_chikong.html

Goblins would never be horde or alliance only, because of the issue with all goblin towns no longer being neutral.
Worgen would be an awesome addition, but I see them as being a Horde race, not Alliance. For one thing, it's unlikely that the humans would ever allow them to join, despite their former human nature. Secondly, it makes sense for Blizzard to keep the horde as the monstrous race from an aesthetic standpoint.
Also, given the rumors about the next expansion being centered around the Druids, even possibly having a Druid-based hero class, would expect that any new races would fit into that, and Goblins certainly don't. Worgen, however, are shapeshifters, which could bring a lot to druids, which people have said should have a werewolf form next.
The other class that I think would fit with that would be a centaur race that would join the Alliance. They already have very strong ties with the Night Elves and have reasons to dislike both the Orcs and Tauren. I could see them rounding out whatever moon-based Druidism while the Worgen and Tauren are whatever sun-based Druidism that they seem to be moving towards.
The only issue that would make Blizzard hesitant to add Worgen or Centaurs is having to create new armor models for every item so far, which they were able to avoid doing with Draenei and Blood Elves. This could be a potentially huge amount of work, especially for the Centaurs. I could see them avoiding needing ground mounts and both starting with faster running speed, but they would probably need some mount animations just for flying and argent tournament events.

i am sure there is video out there of the exact quote...
Horde:
Mok'Nathal (half-orc half-ogres, those big red guys in blade's edge)
Nerubians (what's happening to them now is EXACTLY what happened to the forsaken)
Alliance:
Dryads
Ethereal (neutral race, falls along the same lines as goblins)
