I'm not trying to be a dick or start a holy war, I'm serious. I've never heard of anyone buying his games. I never see anyone on the Shack discussing them. The only game I've ever seen serious mention of is Battlecruiser 3000 and that's mainly in jest or in comparison to other titanic game development cycles. In fact the last time I heard of Derek Smart he was suing his publisher over a game that wasn't out yet and that was years ago.
I'm curious what that operation looks like. Is it an actual company with offices and employees and a receptionist and everything? Or is it Derek Smart and whomever he's contracted this week working out of their homes in their spare (or full) time?
How does a company which belts out game after game I'm not interested in stay in business whereas companies whose games I've lined up to buy day one go out of business? Is it that I'm not indicative of the kind of purchaser that keeps these guys in business? What is the X factor I'm not thinking of here?
