Shack PSA: 30% Off The Witcher on Steam
by Alice O'Connor, Aug 06, 2009 5:44am PDTTo celebrate nudity's return to North American copies of The Witcher in its Director's Cut, Steam has slashed CD Projekt Red's action RPG's price by 30% down to $27.99.
The Witcher proved a surprisingly refreshing, engaging, and mature RPG, silly "sex cards" aside. FileShack plays host to a demo if you want to try before you buy.
The offer will run until August 12, though bear in mind Steam will be down for a few hours' maintenance tonight and The Witcher is unavailable on Steam in some regions.

The Shack considers it one of the best games in the last 3 years, and everytime it's mentioned there are a bunch of people shouting it's praises. Does the rest of the world know this, and are CD Projekt getting the recognition (and money) they deserve?
Or is it too niche and is the rest of the world missing out (like they usually do.)

And when you see the effect of that small decision 6 hours later and how it can change the way the story is told and the game is played, you will truly be bemused and pleased.

Does this "nudity's return" include the in game models or just the cards? And does it also include the extra side story mods in the Steam download?

All of you non-Americans out there, get this too. Except not on Steam. Original version or Enhanced Edition (= original + EE patch + some goodies in the box) can be found cheap online.
Puts BioWare's RPGs (with exception of BG of course) utterly to shame.
Story is fantastic, as are the characters and I liked the conversations. The moral choices in this game aren't as bland as TRULY GOOD POINTS +10 / TRULY EVIL POINTS -10 like BioWare and others do.
Game has a bit of a slow start but it rewards.
If you don't like the combat system (I liked it) you can give this mod a shot

I've gotten this impression from various past comments already, but it really does seem this is a must-have for RPG plans.

Mostly, I felt like the alchemy ingredients could have been better separated within the inventory menu and I wish that the alchemy itself had been something more than clicking on pre-determined formula sets as I went into meditation mode.

Fun fact: You can buy the original US version (I got it on amazon for $15) and upgrade it to 1.4, and then upgrade it to the 1.5 EE patch and get all the fixed dialogue and added content.
You can also add in a patch that will restore the original combat 'blood' and nudity if you want (doesn't change gameplay a ton).
But this is one of the most rewarding rpg's I've played in awhile. I highly recommend it.
