Persona PSP Getting Simultaneous Retail, Downloadable Release

6
The enhanced PSP remake of demonic RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Persona will be released as a digital download through the PlayStation Network on September 22, the same day the physical version hits retail, publisher Atlus announced today. "All of you first adopters of the upcoming PSPgo System can christen your new handheld with a quality RPG experience," the company said of the digital release. The PSPgo, which can only play downloaded games, hits North America on October 1 at $250.

Of course, those with regular old PSPs will also be able to obtain and play the game through digital download, memory stick space permitting, though they'll be missing out of the bonus two-disc soundtrack that's bundled with the physical UMD edition.

All you guys need to buy this so they'll eventually release Persona 3 & 4 on the. I don't see why they didn't start there anyway.

      On the PSP that is.

Because those games weren't built for the PSP, they were built for the PS2, and they'd probably have to scale them back.

Besides, we already have P3 and P4, and they're good. This release is nice because the old Persona release was terrible, with stuff cut, a shitty localization, etc.

I'd love to see a similar update to Persona 2 (maybe with both halves) on the PSP, but I can't see buying Persona 3 and 4 again.

All perfectly valid points for somebody who owns a PS2 and has played the games before. Neither of which is true in my case.

What this man says is 100% correct. If you haven't played P3 or P4 yet, get them while you can.

Personally, I like playing them on a home console more. These 2 games are probably in my top 10 favorite games of PS2 for all time.

You guys seem to be suggesting that porting Persona 3 & 4 to the PSP would be a bad idea. The reasoning for this appears to be that you personally experienced them on the PS2 and others who wish to play the games should as well. That seems like a sentiment that goes beyond a leap of logic and into a puzzling display of human nature.

Certainly the games would have to be scaled back for a PSP release, but they're very much technically possible on the PSP with few sacrifices beyond moderate graphical and aural fidelity losses. Anybody playing a PSP port would know of this fact so it is irrelevant.

So in short, I don't see reason in discouraging somebody else's desire for quality games to be ported to other systems. Especially when the control interface of said games would port directly to the target platform.
