EA Beats Estimates on Strong Sales of The Sims 3
by Nick Breckon, Aug 04, 2009 2:22pm PDTElectronic Arts reported a $644 million first quarter today, a revenue take that beat expectations thanks to impressive sales of The Sims 3 and EA Sports Active.
The Sims 3 has sold 3.7 million copies so far, with 59% of those sales coming from the international market, according to EA. So far the game is outpacing The Sims 2 by around 25%.
EA Sports Active, the company's Wii exercise game, sold 1.8 million units, a figure that EA CEO John Riccitiello was predictably "very pleased" with. The title is now EA's best-selling software on the Wii.
Despite the success of much of its lineup, EA still lost money overall, posting a $234 million net loss, a figure that compares unfavorably to last year's shedding of $95 million in the same quarter.
